Discretionary Settlement as a Gesture Of Goodwill
Sent31/03/2012 22:26ReferenceWMS0121870977

Hi andy,

We are contacting you in regard to your bet placed on Makani Bisty (Win and Each Way In-Play 2.45 Meydan). As a gesture of goodwill and contrary to our rules we have settled this selection as a void.

Kind regards,
The bet365 Team

bet365 is committed to responsible gambling; for more information go to

the stewards stopped the race, of course it has to be void, they make out that they have done me a favour, so are they saying that the race was not void and that they have taken this measure of settlement of a gesture of good will, well i wonder if 1 jockey ignored all would they have had to pay out on the first past the post, in the original race, or would they have taken upon themselves to void all bets, bet365 named and shamed. p.s you did not do me any favours in settlement .

They have standard reply for everything...it would be hard for them to personalise..

From the e mail it looks like it was sent after 10 pm.I backed opinion poll with bet 365 and they paid out on the winner. So it looks like they paid out on the winner of the rerun and then refunded all losers.........so in my book that is a nice gesture.they also do not appear to have taken any deductions....I got paid out on 11/4

i wern't asking them to personalise the email unlucky mike, its the gesture of goodwill part thats a joke, as if they done me a favour, if the officials at meydan take it upon themselves to stop a race, then it has to be deemed void all bets refunded, bet365 in this email act as if, hey you backed a loser, heres your money back as a gesture, of course i backed the loser my horse was out infront for over a mile in the original race, no way was it going to win the re run hence it being over 40l behind, all bets should have been voided, then each can make their own choice wether to play in the re run, simple

capetown fair play mate that they paid you out on the winner, to me thats the gesture of goodwill not that they refunded my stakes in the original race,

I see your point......I think it all comes down to whether they should have voided all bets or let them go onto the rerun.my understanding was that all bets would roll onto the rerun unless you requested your bet to be voided.I think the bookies were in a difficult position because some punters like u would have wanted the bet to be voided because you knew you had no chance in rerun because of circumstances of first run whilst opinion poll was pulled up early and I was keen on keeping bet going.I think though they probably should of sent e mail to me informing me that they had paid out as a gesture of goodwill.

Woke up this morning to find my Bet365 balance higher than expected!!

I backed Opinion Poll before the first race was voided. They refunded my stake, as they did with all bets. I imagine everyone pretty happy with that.

Didn't even know that the race had been re-run and OP won, but to Bet 365's credit they paid me on OP as a winner evn though I hadn't bet on the re-run.

If you ask me this is an extremely generous offer as basically for all bets placed before the first running they have settled losers as void and paid out on Opinion Poll as a winner. Given OP's prominence in the betting, it will cost them a fair bit.

Suspect not many other bookiese have done this. QED

Capetown....i think you have been confused with what colin said.

He surely must have been paid for a void then when a rerun stated paid on opinion poll MINUS his void paid earlier.

you can't expect a void payment as well as being paid on the re-run winner.
Apologies if i'm mistaken with either post.

[i mean on the same horse, different if you had 2 selections in race]
