great to see 12yo Nozic win today..bit frustrating that he was a weightwatch horse a few days back and became a non runner...running today put him outside my 28day since last run rule..ah well its not the first time and it wont be the last..

as i predicted a few weeks back horses are having large gaps between their last runs because of the weather and little or no racing..going through tomorrows cards i got fed up of clicking the X and discounting 90% of horses running outside 4 weeks..if they werent running inside 28days they were running in jumpers bumpers..i will call this a bump in the road and see what happens..many horses are running tomorrow who were penalised for not winning last run but most fall outside the 28day rule...hence selections are down and will be down until horses start running or re-running again..anyway enough of the issues..on we go

my biggest bear bug of horses getting penalised for falling holds true 2morr with Captain Sunshine..up 4LB for hitting the deck hard at the last when still in third and stayin on..i have called for a rule for years that horses who dont complete the course should not be penalised..but it has fallen on deaf ears.pardon the pun.u will see with Quaddick Lake how little chance horses especially older horses like him have when they are consistantly penalised for not winning..i saw a 14 year old get +5LB for been 3rd lately just in case the poor bugger ever even thought about winning again..been 4 years since it won..will 12 year old Nozic get 7LB for winning today..no chance it will be +10LB..on we go

Although this time last year we were faced with small fields in bone dry conditions and everyone wondering how Jumps racing was going to cope with the demands of endless watering due to next 10 years of no rain...

Quaddick Lake did get that rise i predicted from the merciless Handicapper +2LB..now on 133 from 131..at 10 years old he is now on the highest mark of his life and has gone up +5LB for been beaten 11 lengths on his last 2 runs...the handicapper will argue that he should of won last run and could of raised him 5 or 6...all i know is the next time he runs he will have to put in the performance of his life and if he wins it will be a long time before he gets a chance again if ever...handicapping horses to the hilt helps no one longterm esp owners who break their balls spending money on training fees for little or no return..when they get some light at the end of the tunnel the handicapper switches it off big time just in case u might win an old handicap worth 3,000..

TENNIS CAP is the most penalised horse in Ireland this week,getting +12LB for his most recent win.been a rather small nervous type having assessed him in the flesh this could stop him from winning for a while now..
DACTIK got +10LB for his latest win..severe enough but expected with the manner of his latest eased down win..could still have a little in hand been only 7..winning 3 of his last 5 starts he has now gone up +31LB..what improvement is left???credit to his trainer here..
The beauty of looking at the irish ratings is all reassessed horses are on the one page in alphabetical order..and all horses are reasssessed the day after they run so u know where u stand after 2 days..in the UK its not easy finding this info out unless u know which horses u are looking for..on we druge

i only work from recent form most notably last time out as i believe a horse is only as good as its last run...so by using lets say RPR's as a guide i can see that Special Robon had an RPR of 108..marking this up to 12-00 u get 28LB as the horse is carring 10-00 u get 136,i add jocks claim always have +5LB 141 and maybe a weight for advantage of +3 144..so i have him between 141 and 144 adjusted..his nearest rival on this same basis is The Thirsty Bricky who last time out ran to a RPR of 111..he carries 11-12 though..so +2LB to 12-00 =113 jocks claim +5 = 118 adjusted..on this basis i believe Special Robon has at least 20LB to 24LB in hand of his nearest rival..22LB is the median figure..so the horse could run short of his best and still win in theory..of course the price reflects this..
there is another horse today who is 30LB ahead as far as i can see ...Ballypatrick(1.40Fak) is 148 in my book and his nearest rival is 118 in Watch House...again the price will reflect this horse more so as its not a handicap.i also use benchmarks for each race as in what will it take to actually win this race and which horse is capable of reaching the benchmark.so a class 5 (0-100) would for me have a benchmark of between 100-105.its a good starting point.horses that have run on, near or above the benchmark figure last run are the only horses i am interested in,,then u just look for positive conditions to reinforce ur bet.the best horses are those that consistantly reach the benchmark and carry a lower weight than usual.anything under 11-00 for instance.on we go

maybe a weight for age advantage of +3 144

i always advise ppl if they are using RPR's as a guide to adjust the ratings from the last run only..racing post ratings are adjusted to the horses best performance from its last 6 runs in that disipline..so a horses adjusted RRP may be top but it may be taken from a run over a year ago...never take adjusted RPR ratings to seriously..they are very misleading..
for example today Baileys Concerto(1.40 fak) has an adjusted RPR of 142..this was taken from his run last november where he had a raw rating of 128..he carries 11-00 today so adjust to 12-00 and u get 128+14=142..but he ran to only 98 last time out..when u adjust to this run you 98+14=112...so u can see straight away this horse ran a stinker last run and needs to show his back to his best today to win..the benchmark for this class 4 event is 120-125 raw..so in theory he is capable of winning on that 128 performances,but Ballypatrick ran to a raw rating of 134 last time out..which horse would you back at these weights...this is all theory of course..BallyPatrick has a huge opportunity to win today if he jumps around..

and if ppl arent members of the racing post to access the ratings they are free on the racing posts mobile app...so download it to ur phone..handy tool in my eyes..u dont need to be a member of site these days..its gone downhill anyways big time..

i have used RPR's for years and have as u know wrote e books on how they work and how best to use them..i find them the best thing on the net and would never knock them..a great guide and i say guide..i have streamlined them to my own thinking and i would be lost without them to be honest..they tell u what a horse has achieved on the track give or take a few LB's not what the handicapper thinks they can achieve in the future..i cant predict the future so deal with the past for reality checks on a regular basis...

a few for today with one of my fav horses included on the list again..Special Token is one of those horses who has won in all shperes,trys her heart out and gets penalised every time without winning..would love to see her win today..she will give a bold show no doubt but her task is tougher again up in class...
The Bear Trap and South Stack got whooping rises in defeat for their latest runs..i imagine connections were fuming esp with South S who is now +16LB higher since his last hcap hurdle win..talk about squeezing the life out of him..the whole system is wrong and needs changing as far as i am concerned..still like the whole Mark Johston idea with regards handicapping horses..reward them for winning instead of punishing them..jez they are even punished for not winning,for falling..crazy system that needs chucking out and the quicker the better..all horses will run to merit then..no doubts..

anyone using the POSTDATA TABLE on RP site should be aware that it is totally misleading as regards going positives and other issues..the proof is always in the pudding i say..Postdata is now rock bottom in the overall NAPS table with -41 pts..these being their best bets..they are also on 14 losers in a row and i know that lots of ppl use this table for quick reference..False Favourites swear by it..if it gives horses 2 ticks for heavy ground when a horse has never even competed on it u know ur in trouble..double check everything and spend a bit more time and dont depend on these short cuts..the only short cuts they provide is to the poor house esp if ur a backer..
with 40% of favourites winning from the last 900 odd i think layers have to be very very picky nowadays.or they can just go against postdata selections.on we go

another penalty awaits Man Of Leisure,the old boy keeps running his heart out in defeat and keeps getting penalised for it..this is where the system lets itself down..its laughable when u think about it..if he cant win now off his current mark why keep raising him.let him win away.robotic handicapping is alive and well at BHA headquarters..on we go

Re: Man of Leisure, thought the jockey got caught between two stools there, didn't know whether to kick on from 2 out when going well or hold it up till after the last. In the end he did neither, went after the second last, ran out of steam and got caught. A bit like a tennis player that cant decide whether to let a lob bounce or not before smashing it and then dob it into the base of the net.

always travels strongly this horse and always runs out of steam..taunton is always a long way home..the 6LB he got for his last two seconds probably cost him the race in the end...and it will again in the future..they have tried every tactic with him..still 0/18..has won a point to point.has been 2nd 8 times now i think..another +3LB after today which will not allow the horse to win at all..a 9 year old now with time running out..the handicappers say they give horses every chance to win but i believe in this case the opposite is the truth..they just raise horses for the sake of it,,continually adding weight to beaten horses makes them less competitive longterm..i would love to see the day when i look at a horse beaten 3 lengths in a c5 hcap hurdle and its mark is left alone..but i live in dreamland....when u see 12 and 13 year old chasers still getting 7LB for been beaten u know the system is a joke..and dont get me started on fallers and penalties..

Sumkindasuprstar's future rise is +5LB..he is rated 100 in future races(128 over fences)..the racing post wont show this info unless they are slapped in the face with it..yet irish horses are reassessed the day after they run....yet they are raising their charges again for using the site to a basic 14.50 a month..this was 8 a month last year,then went up to 13 and now its up to 14.50..why?because they think adding a new race predictor which is free on their mobile app warrants this rise....u couldnt make it up..this site gives out more inaccurate information than A Tesco meat counter...an 81% rise in the pass year and for what..to pay the swarm of journos they hire to write the same drivel every week..i have no doubt that without bookmakers advertising support this company would be dead in the water..the newspaper is the most inaccurate publication of all..at least on the site u can change or update ur opinions when the ground changes overnight..once its printed u cant change a thing..the minute the ground changes the newspaper becoming null and void..what a waste of ppl's time,effort and money..hence we feel the brunt of it with all the rises..real journalism is dead and buried at Canary Wharf with no one daring to speak the truth as to what goes on day in day out in horse racing...u can see why they got rid of Mark Johnson and Paul Haigh as there would be a huge conflict of interest with their main partners..the bookies,who are in fact main partners with everybody,including ruk,atr,timeform,purple,tote..u name it and the bookies control it...but thats another story for another day...i always like to start the day with a good rant..on we go

explain this kind of handicapping and u will understand why the current system is a joke..

the 2.00 at Huntington tomorrow is a class 4 hcap hurdle 0-105..

the top weight Diamond Tammy is having his first run in a handicap and has been given a starting rating of 105.on its last 6 runs it has been beaten 80L,43L,49L,46L,41L and 29L..his highest RPR rating is 87 which i feel is generous..this would equate the horses ability on what he has done as moderate and probably a rating of 85 would be pushing it.. where the handicapper gets 105 from is beyond belief..he must have a crystal ball to tell the future..now this horse who has shown moderate ability is lumbered with top weight of 11-12 in a class 4 hcap hurdle..
now in the same race Cool Cascade has won a class 4 handicap hurdle by 2 lengths..so u would think he would at least have a rating close to Diamond Tammy in around 100..but no he is rated..wait for it...84..there is other horses in this race who r rated 100 with no form whatsoever and it seems 100 is just a throw away number with handicappers these days..a lazy option to rating horses they cant rate on form,they just say"sur we will give the horse 100 just in case he shows something..we can always drop him after a few runs"...105 Diamond Tammy..the owner and trainer must be scratching their heads in disbelief..cause i bloody well am..this goes on all the time..they live in cloud cuckoo land..i will write a letter to them and see where in gods own earth they came up with this 105..i will be a long time waiting on a response..they are answerable to no one and that includes me and you...what odds this horse tailing off tomorrow and been dropped 10LB next run..drives me insane...but sur bookies love them handicappers..change the bloody record Phil Smith..

Newcastle off again..must b well into double figures the amount of abandonments at this course since last summer..a track that should concentrate on flat racing..as a winter jumps venue it cant provide a service..seriously and its not the only track powerless against winter..fair dues to Warwick yesterday,Fleece down over whole track..now thats the effort u need with winter jumps tracks..here was the Newcastle going report today..
GOING: Winning line to fence 9 - SOFT (Heavy in places); Last 5 furlongs - SOFT (Good to soft in places; GoingStick 5.0) (All bends moved in onto ground not raced on since November where possible; Course rolled and spiked this week)..i wouldnt even consider bettin there with a report like that..its all the one now...

i am really starting to worry that there is something amiss with the new Lingfield surface..two horses now breaking down badly out of the blue and both fatally injured..i recall another horse a month or so back breaking a leg as well..with Full Swing dying yesterday and BobbyJack a few weeks ago i am more than concerned that..no one has asked the question????

our old friend Quaddick Lake is back in action today after his penalty for been nearly brought down last time out takes effect.only 2LB i know but he is now on his highest mark ever and at 10 life isnt getting any easier..he is dropped in class which is good,but again this brings the added burden of top weight..come on the old boy..for once i hope he proves the handicapper right.this horse is 105 over fences and i cant see why they dont run him again over the bigger obstacles..ok he fell last try,but 105..
i have also addded Hollo Ladies who i think will get a future rise for his run 6days ago.i find it unusual for this yard to have a quick runner backing up.they usually have a year between runs.i dont back horses from this yard as i have my own opinions on the trainer which i wont air on here for fear of libel
2 McCain horses which we dont have enough of on WW is always a positive..unlike the previously mentioned trainer this guy runs his horses to do their best..thats all i ask..
Shammick Boy was brutally punished(+6LB) for his short head defeat last time out..as if this yard hasnt had enough problems without over zealous handicapping..the winner of that race Billy Twyford got +8LB..so it seems a short head equates to +2LB over 2 miles 1.

the Blue Square Sprint Series final run at Lingfield today is a strange event which holds CLASS 3 status..now a normal class 3 handicap on the flat is 0-90 and 0-95..but topweight in this race is Temple Road at 74..this equates to a Class 5 event in reality..it is rare u will see a whole field of horses raised 2 or 3 grades in class in the one race...this is one of the strange rules or conditions of the final..
(In the event of the abandonment of a qualifier, any horse which had been declared to run in that race under the provisions of Rule (F)89, or any horse entered to run in that race if the time of abandonment was prior to the declaration stage, will be qualified, subject to the Rules of Racing, to enter the Final)
Surely most of the field qualified here on the back of this stupid rule..if a horse shows up on the back of this rule and wins it would be very unfair on a genuine qualifier esp if they finish second..this race needs looking at again...in no other country would u see this..it wouldnt happen..another issue is when all these horses run in this Class 3 hcap they will show as having huge drops in class next time they run which will again mislead ppl into thinking,"hang on this horse drops 3 classes here,he must be a certainity"not me my friend

this race was an early closer,so technically u are correct..i tend to leave early closing races alone because they cause to much confusion with hcap marks..all horses were assessed for runs on and before Feb 3rd..

the one horse i complained about wins.Shammick Boy doing it well..nothing new there then..Quaddick Lake ran to free and found no cover in a big field..strange that one..he is whats called limbo land now..they must be tempted to run him over fences off 105..on we go

to let ppl know i am winding up weightwatch at the end of this month..as i have all the data i need after almost a year of selecting..with selections thin on the ground March wont make any difference to me at this stage..

thanks,i think its time to call it a day..

i have changed my mind i am going out on a winner..what better way to end it..thanks to all who contributed here,its been an experience and a big learning curve..and if anyone says a horse cant win after been penalised for not winning last time out is just plain crazyon we go..
