I personally think his appearances on c4 racing are hugely entertaining and reckon much of his musings are an act. What does everyone else think?

Thommo can certainly be criticised (eg because of his tipping service) but he is in my opinion a charismatic character and a good ambassador for racing - the sport needs personalities like him to appeal to a wider audience

 My pet guinea-pig has far more personality, and I've NEVER seen anyone to rival the bellend that is 'Thommo' for exponential insincerity  As for the 'poser' the OP suggested...McCririck is a tiresome ballbag and a massive IDIOT - I can't wait for him to disappear from our screens as he's INTENT on making his mark as a 'martyr' for the animal rights perverts, who themselves probably detest the prick as much as I do! Actually dont mind him, He is a stark contrast to the toffs and snoots that surround the sport and do it far more damage than Mcririck has done. Agree that a lot of him is just an act and people take it all a bit too seriously.

Oops, just seen the Curley question now but apparently he "saved his bacon" by negotiation on his behalf with bookmakers he owed money to to give him more time to pay off the debt, presumably so that he then wouldn't be barred from attending the races and so on.

An idiot, but legendary all the same. Get the impression that he's despised by his contemporaries and is often deeply embarrassing for the sport, yet at the same time he can be quite amusing (usually without intending to be) and racing would feel a little odd without him.

Sadly I feel it is we punters who have the problem.
As punters we are considered to be and portayed as, by the general public at least, wasters, thieves, cheats, liars and wife beaters. On top of that the sport we love is being maligned in every other section of society and now the animal rights activists are targetting it. So when loony Big Mac comes on we automatically feel defensive and protective of 'our' sport. If we were strong enough we would just laugh at his stupidity but our resolve is not strong enough. Add to that the bookies are ripping off the levy and reducing 'our' sport to computerised or low grade racing just to line their pockets. It is high time we started to stand up for ourselves and fight back. But, being a disperate band of loners that is never going to happen so life will be lonely, often bitter and seldom affordable but still we go on. |

I have little time for the majority of these racing presenters with the exception of Thommo for whom I have no time at all. They get themselves a nice seat on the Gravy Train and make a good living from doing next to nothing. Punters like you and me who genuinely love our sport are marginalised and treated with contempt almost like some foul smelling waste product to be flushed away and forgotten about.

The racing industry is top heavy with a bunch of freeloaders. There are millions of people in this country who work hard and do a good job for cr@p pay while these people do a cr@p job for very good pay. You only had to watch RUK's Kempton coverage on Wednesday night - Nevison and Willoughby added absolutely nothing of value to the evenings racing - at one point they were even talking about pigeon racing FFS - a point you picked up on watchit. The other week we had Gordon Brown discussing the chances of a horse ten minutes before a race that was a fcking non-runner - very poor indeed.

In your opinion. However, McCr is the 'face of racing' to the general public. Its his ugly visage and bullshlt spouting that does the damage. People not involved in the sport are not knowledgeable enough to have your insight into the 'bent' industry. |

That's the point zipper - we shouldn't have to use the mute button - they should have presenters on who are interesting, informed and aren't afraid to ask relevant and pertinent questions. Instead of a bunch of people who must have @rses full of splinters from sitting on the fence for so long.
