I did the track record laying it but the ride was brilliant.

Just watched it again and you won't see a better ride than that anywhere.

anyone who thinks that was a great ride is so wrong it's incredible. The one horse who the whole world knows jumps to the right and he sits on the outside of it for at least half the race, constantly being jumped across and put off. cost riverside lengths. with a decent ride that wins easily. The horse got geraghty out of trouble.
Report TRD.Racing March 15, 2012 2:56 PM GMT
roo,I tried laying it after they jumped 3,but goo too big to lay. Ended up backing it and nicking 300 quid after it kept coming back on the bit despite not jumping

Tell me what is wrong with what I've said. He was on the outside of captain chris at most fences. A ridiculous thing to do. If there is one horse you don't want to be outside it's that. He got v lucky that captain chris didn't jump quite as wildly right as normal. Riverside was at least 5 or 6 lengths better than the 2nd and 3rd.

Horse needs a sighter of the fences. Superb ride and I was looking at a big win on Albertas Run. Fabulous race as the top 3 fought out a stunning battle. Jockeys rode cracking races and that finish was what the sport is all about.

The race of the wk, outstanding performance from horse & jock.
And great effort from Albertas Run, what a race & everything that our GREAT sport of horse racing is all about. PURE MAGIC.
Report TRD.Racing March 15, 2012 3:06 PM GMT
Even without the interference by Captain Chris the horse hardly jumped a fence and Barry was after it from the 1st fence.

I thought Barry showed balls of steel on a horse that didn't jump.

All about opinions at the end of the day.

Good luck with the rest of the meeting

I backed riverside. It was easily the best horse in the race on the day. i'm happy that so many people can't see that as it means i'll keep on winning money off the bad judges.

I did bet it at 7s after his Ascot win, and i was never happy until the last 100yds.
I dont play in running and glad i dont as i would have prob layed it off in running at half way. Again a great performance from horse & jock, ride of the wk.

there was NO need to say you played in running and 'nicked' £300 TRD....

TRD  - amazing how someone can profit in a race they got completely wrong pre race. You clearly are an aftertimer and billy bullshytter.

Hibby talks a lot of sense and his arrers prowess knows no bounds and provides great service to us fans.

charwell where did I say anything about pre race. Where did I say anything about the horse PRE RACE.

Report asparagus March 15, 2012 5:59 PM GMT
AgentR, you know nothing about me. I won on the race. I didn't lay off despite not being happy with the ride. It's all about the odds. if the price had been the same during the race i may well have laid some off but my opinion pre race was that riverside had comfortably the best form. It was drifting out because it was being hampered by captain chris and consequently losing ground. Anyway it's not important what you think. I stand by my opinion that for a large part of that race geraghty rode poorly. Sadly punters tend to look at what wins the race and give that jockey all the plaudits.
Report HappyHibby March 15, 2012 6:01 PM GMT
if RT didn't win do you think they'd all be saying 'great ride barry' asparagus...?
Report TRD.Racing March 15, 2012 6:19 PM GMT
charwell no apology,what a surprise.

No class,no idea charwell
Report asparagus March 15, 2012 11:00 PM GMT
Happy hibby, that's the point really. if geraghty had been beaten they wouldn't be saying it was a great ride. punters and 'experts' are too blinkered by a winning ride. Geraghty was on easily the best horse on the day but scraped home because of poor tactics early in the race. i know it was a bad ride. Everyone seemed to think he was unfortunate to be outside captain chris for half of the race when he chose to be there. He's an excellent jockey but on this occasion he rode poorly and the horse got him out of trouble.
Report HappyHibby March 15, 2012 11:51 PM GMT
i've heard it all the time i've been interested in racing asparagus tbh...

winning ride...first thing you hear is 'great ride by so and so'....

one thing nobody has mentioned is WHY was the horse jumping badly...?

maybe the jockey has to take some responsibility for that...?

i just don't like every time you see a horse being scrubbed along for a long part of the race people say it was a great ride tbh...

truth of the matter is more often than not the jockey just keeps pushing...

that's the least you expect imv...

i'd rather judge a GREAT ride by some sort of tactical manouvre or something.

saying a ride is GREAT just because the jockey never gave up is pretty weak imv...

i think i heard pat eddery going nuts one day when someone said a winning ride of his was GREAT.

his argument was that most of his GREAT rides were on horses that didn't even win...but nobody mentions those ones.

it's all about opinion of course but personally i didn't think this ride was anything special.

no doubt some will say that shows how little i know...

fair enough.
Report asparagus March 16, 2012 6:37 AM GMT
Happy Hibby, I agree with all you've said, particularly regarding 'why was the horse jumping badly.' As I've already said I felt that was mainly down to very poor positioning on Geraghty's part in that he had it next to Captain Chris causing it be slightly hampered and put off by that ones tendency to jump right.

It does appear that we're in the minority and as you said it's all about opinions.  However, I'm happy trusting mine as I know it's served me very well long term and I'm sure you're happy to trust yours too. Good luck.
Report HappyHibby March 16, 2012 8:43 AM GMT
always trust your own opinion asparagus.

it's the only way imv...

must admit during the race i was thinking that being on the outside of CC might not be the best position to be in considering what that horse did the previous time...

it's a game of inches at times.

win a nose and most people say 'great ride'.

lose a nose and they say the opposite.

personally i didn't see it as a great ride.

just because you keep pushing all the way to the line doesn't make it 'great' imv...

no harm being in the minority at times asparagus.

in fact i quite like it tbh...
Report HappyHibby March 16, 2012 8:45 AM GMT
and the point of CC jumping right handed does make a big difference imv.

RT probably was looking at him instead of the fences thus his jumping wasn't great.

if someone was constantly barging in to you you'd keep an eye on them all the time and horses are no different....thus his jumping went to pot a bit...
