People like Williams don't do embarrassment.  They just pick up the pay cheque and run.  I blame the likes of ATR for having him on.

i dont think a few posts on here slagging him off - are let alone bother him, they proably wont even register within is day.

if someone tipped first 3 home in every race tomorrow, and they put in on the news, and everyone in the country backed them - a web site would be set up moaning that they didnt tip the 4th in the pertemps, your going to get abuse no matter what - at least hes earning his abuse,

what i hate about people like matt when they mention a horse as a certainty...like hurricane fly...if he had said most likely winner ..thats ok but certainty..no such thing

What's totally bizarre about the whole Cheltenham preview industry is that the overwhelming majority of the people being paid to offer their opinions have no chance whatsoever of making a success of punting at Cheltenham...

I dont mind him as a presenter.

Though he is a useless tipster Grin

But havent we all had disastrous cheltenhams before?  I know i certainly have.

Glad to say this chelt has been much better for me and backed some of the horses matt said had no chance. So no one has to take his advice. If you go racing with your mates (i know most on here never go) (this is my first chelt missed in many years) :( thats how you talk to each other, "i aint backing that slow boat", "that horse is a bridle ponce", "he's never won for me before" etc etc

Its all part of the banter how he talks, now doubt he will say he has had a nightmare 2 days, but would you rather have someone in the booth with no opinions, or "any of them can win", "he has a favs chance" blah blah.

or i guess most are jealous cause they havent got the cosy gig, and feel they are better tipsters.

It's bizarre Cardiff - why would anyone pay to hear what a bloodstock agent has to say about successful punting (or a journalist or a PR person, or a jockey or trainer for that matter)...
By:
comingupthehill
When: 15 Mar 12 00:31
what punters want is a view about a horse they ve not thought of or seen in its form, better researh really,as long as what you say makes logical sense and its hidden in a first glance of the form, they think they ve stubbled onto a secret,a bit of inside info - even if it looses ,most wouldnt care because your reasoning should stack up.

most can see its got course and dist or it likes soft - they want - its never won when had a 50+day rest,or if travelled more than 100 miles(a stat that isnt recorded by the way - but a big factor in some horses poor runs.)

if your tipping to a concert crowd - one off racegoers, fobt betting shop punters - then basic info is ok - but at chelthenham - most are experienced - so you need knew illusions and complicated trends/form lines.

yes I have had shares in horses for well over 20 years in lots of stables and most of the inside so called info I got was worthless

I was at Salisbury with a runner and this decent trainer I know gets chatting to me so I say "What have you got running?"

so he tells me "oh we are here with a bunch of owners for the 4th race - you wanna have your brains on, this thing is flying at home and is gonna p1ss in"

well I took the paper and had a look - it hadn't won for 2 years, was off 3lb higher than it had ever won off, had been beaten repeatedly off the same mark as today and on top of that there were 4 or 5 lightly raced sorts from the usual top yards...

I said to him "you don't appear to have much chance here mate, you ought to tell the owners to pull their bets...."

of course you know what happened, fecking trailed in, heavily punted

shocking info direct from the trainer

i used to speak to hills agent JF,he was as honest with us - and he was in centre of dubai/newmarket - the best he could commit to was - its meant to be a bit special, got high hopes etc - they still never know who they re up against.

told me about this wonder horse at ponte  - it got beat ,next minute it goes and wins the irish derby.so he was bang on ,but not that day.

fact is most just dont know - and dont want to know - they do there job and go home,

the form is the best tipster.

I saw Matt Williams at a preview night last year and he tipped up Carlo Brigante for the Coral Cup, which I managed to pick up at 25/1. Mind you, he did say Time for Rupert would piss the RSA...

Matt has opinions that he can back up, and makes the game pay.

Only about 0.7% on here can say that. That inc about 0.01% of forum users and none of the thickets previously on this thread. Imo.

Just to say Matt Williams never takes a fee for the ATR Monday Night Cheltenham Preview show, he donates it to the injured Jockeys fund every year.

He expressed an honest opinion and got it wrong why all the animosity?

I would have taken Sprinter Sacre on if Peddler's Cross had run and I napped Vendor.

It hasn't been easy so far.

at one time set a record of shagging 15 new women on the

there I invited all the girls I had associated with out

morning ECK,  please dont think i was referring to you as a spiv i was replying to capewines yips remark.

regards the silver cup i am not sure about value as it depends if a buyer bought it for its scrap value

or if someone liked it as a cup. not sure of the current scrap silver price but i am sure you would

not have much bother finding it on the internet.
