I must preface my question with the following. 1) I have never ridden a racehorse. 2) I have no idea how you would even begin to train a racehourse. 3) I am just someone who loves racing and has the occasional wager.

So, that said, are the so called 'plots' wrong or are connections just playing the game cleverly?

Presumably,if i were a trainer and i had a race at the festival or indeed any race throughout the year in mind for my horse and i wanted firstly to win the race because it is a presitgious race, secondly i wanted to win the prize money and finally i wanted to give the opportunity for my owner, friends, stable staff, or whomsoever to have a good bet and win, then is it wrong for me to plot the horse in the following way? Presumably, again i have no idea, but if i were to leave my horse short of work or run the horse on ground i know they wouldn't like or over a distance they would find too far or too short, or on a course they would dislike, just so that horse would get dropped in the handicap in the future and give me the best opportunity of winning the race and letting owner win their bet, is that wrong?

You see, it seems to me some people say, and it is their perrogative, that they find plots 'iffy' or there is something 'off', but isn't it the case that the trainer and owner are just being clever and playing the game? Isn't the case that some people are just really upset because they didn't spot the plot and they and missed out on the price?

As far as i am aware, none of what i have said is either against the rules of racing or is illegal, so aren't connections just been clever? After all, racing is a business and they are here to make a living and are entitled to make money from the game?

I am slightly playing devil's advocate, but i would like to know what people think?

Simon

Can't see anything wrong with the scenario as stated, so long as the horse is doing its best in each race. You must also remember that lots of plots go astray as well, sometimes outplotted!
