Undoubtedly cost Sizing his chance of winning. He needed the last jump, was getting on top. Jock was indecisive, which didn't help, but understndable giving the **** up by the track

Not sure which horse would have won had they jumped the last, but Sizing Europe was more inconvenienced than the winner IMO.

Andrew Lynch did so well just to get round the fence , was tearing SEs head off to try and get across. It looked to me that Geraghty had no idea the flag was there and only realised when Andrew started to barge into him.

Sizing Europe was by far the most inconveienced and it cost him the win, obvious to a blind man.

I watched the race on mute and clearly am only a part time race watcher - why didn't they jump the last? In my view, Finians aimed for the right hand side of the fence puching Sizing towards it and that gave him the edge.

guesswork to say what would have happened...FR gained ground on SE at the 2nd last, so nothing to say SE would have jumped the last better.

Quite Dr. Not saying it was ideal for either, but if you think that by being barged twice and being forced to run wide benefited Finian's then I'd suggest you dry your eyes.

FR went inside to take the fence. He absolutely slaughtered the jolly round the fence. I was surprised that FR outdid him on the run-in, but the jock had to take a pull, pull him sideways and start again. Incredible that the major bookmakers dont pay out on both.

Well I backed Sizing Europe and don't feel that he was hampered any worse than Finian's, simply beaten by the better horse. HTH

Nobody can say for sure which horse would have won and although Sizing Europe was on the inner, it was only the difference of one horse width between the two and both horse's were inconvenienced because both jockeys looked at one stage as if the were steering their horses around the fence, then both went to straighten up again as if to jump it and then both steered around again and not only did Finian's get bumped but Geraghty being on the outer seemed to want to also take whichever action Lynch did so as not to risk being in the "wrong" by himself, which would explain how they looked to miss it, then to jump it and then miss it out again.

surely they could have gently dolled off the inside half of that fence with posts and tape and guided them over the outer half?
Small field, second circuit, never an issue of too many horses all trying to jump it in a line. It's not rocket science. But then again, they are far from that level of capability. |

From what I've seen it looked as though the staff did place boards ONLY on the inside half of the fence ( after moving them back from all along the fence).
Dunno what that's supposed to indicate to jockeys, but perhaps if they'd both jumped the fence the result might have been the same anyway? Were they allowed to jump that outer half of the fence or not? I backed Sizing but nothing major. I thought both were inconvenienced and there was bumping and barging. It's gone now, so on to the next day for me. |

In a perverse way it would have been funny to see Sizing jump it and win Finians go round it and lose......i really wonder what they would have done?
If fact, they probably wonder really wonder what they would have done!!!    |

The boards were changed from spaced along the fence to touching side by side only on the inner to act as a visual shield so that the jockeys wouldn't jump the fence and risk going near the jockey receiving treatment, although that was unlikely anyway as I doubt that if the boards were left spaced out that any jockey would have jumped the fence by going in between them, so was a strange decision made by an ex-jockey but I suppose when safety is a factor then that overrides everything else in his mind.

is this a wind up the best horse clearly won i just watched it back they were both affected exactly the same so many pocket talkers he was beaten fair and square he had a good furlong furlong and half to see off finians and he couldnt end of BEST HORSE WON FINIANS NEW CHGAMPION GET OVER IT

How can people argue the incident cost SE? FR is a fine jumper too and for my money was gaining ground at the fences. As FR also had question marks over his resolution in a battle a prolonged duel poss worked against him!! And he got barged. FR won going away and the result would have been no different had the fence been jumped.
And I never backed any horse in that race. Unlike most of the pocket talkers on here. WD Jack Herer for talking objectively despite the loss. |

The boards were brought in side to side so that any riderless horses wouldn't jump in between them in the area of the injured jockey. I didn't realise this at first bit it of course makes perfect sense. |
