My wife who knows nothing about racing said 'the one in the blue is too far back to win'and that was half way round!

He rode him pretty much exactly how he did last year didn't he?
Did the Fly bounce?
Report xmoneyx March 13, 2012 3:52 PM GMT
out-paced---others never weakened
Report eric_morris March 13, 2012 3:53 PM GMT
Didnt judge the pace of the race terrible ride they were never going to come back from the front off such a steady pace. Channel 4 talking cr@p to save Walsh's blushes.
Report Early Morning Riser March 13, 2012 3:53 PM GMT
i have to say, he did give HF too much to do. not saying HF would have won but you cant make up too much ground with todays going.
Report richters March 13, 2012 3:53 PM GMT
pocket talkin surely portman but the fact are it was an awful ride...ruby wals has become to cocky for his own good lately....he thought that that race was goin 2 fall into has hands...ie.he had no plan B.

first two home in the van all the way

Willie Mullins on Hurricane Fly: "Ruby said, when he asked him to get into the race coming down the hill, he just didnt fire" Willie Mullins says Ruby Walsh "thought they were going fast enough" in Champion Hurdle. "Maybe the horse just disappointed," trainer says. Willie Mullins offers no excuses for Hurricane Fly but accepts a suggestion that he may have been held up a long way off the pace

thinly disgusie as you dont know that horse racing is a sport an in championship races a lot of it comes down to jockeyship and race riding i thought ruby should have been closer to the pace in a race like the champiuon hurdle but im not a gambler and appecriate horse racing as a sport and the art of race riding the winner was a good winner thier are winners and losers its a sport get use to it thier not here to please you

He's become the Jamie Spencer of the jumps - often gets his mounts too far behind, but it's Ruby Walsh so no one is allowed to criticize him. Did the same in the first, Prospect Wells was well behind and stayed on very strongly, never nearer.
Report punchestown March 13, 2012 3:59 PM GMT
Horse just didn't fire today, very warm beforehand and never travelled with its usual power, plenty far back alright but just didn't look the horse we know it is today.
Report chatto March 13, 2012 3:59 PM GMT
Not good enough on the day.
Report millhouse March 13, 2012 3:59 PM GMT
Horse not good enough on the day for some reason, imo, but quite how C4 think they actually can be objective about Walsh's riding, when they are smarming all over his Dad in the commentary box, is beyond me....
Report richters March 13, 2012 4:00 PM GMT
apart from that ride on hf walsh has just become wrapped up in his own importance recently...reguarly giving smart a ss answers when gettin interviewd,,maybe if someone had the balls to say on tv that that was not his finest hour then he would take a bit of notice....
Report Early Morning Riser March 13, 2012 4:01 PM GMT
also, mullins has only had 2 winners in the last 2 weeks, maybe something not right with their horses.
Report Vubiant March 13, 2012 4:02 PM GMT
Hah , still waiting for that mythical objectivity ,are we ?

Report high_lander March 13, 2012 4:03 PM GMT
Commentator kept saying the first two home (who led all the way) were going a furious gallop etc... absolute tosh! Obviously they weren't going all that fast, if they had gone breakneck speed etc they would have faded and been swamped by the field. Trust me, they did not go fast all the way around.
Report eric_morris March 13, 2012 4:11 PM GMT
Commentary was garbage. Very steady pace for a Champion Hurdle and on fairly quick ground, the leaders were never coming back to them. Legends can be made and broken by the rider, this one is now broken.
