From a punting point of view (with the exception of antepost backers), it is not a bad thing, there are enough 6/1 the field races already without more cavalry charges
Report freddie w March 12, 2012 11:18 AM GMT
from a punters point of view I don't think tomorrow is that great.
5 runner race with an odds on fav
mares race with an odds on shot
glorified point to point race
novice hurdle
the redeeming feature - 2 great handicaps

I know we will see some good horses but overall not value for money or worth the hassle.

I'm ready for the flak!!

yeah ive been against him all season for this race but the small field does change things slightly!

id rather lay him in running than back him at 5/6.

Totally agree with three days! At least you could bet ante post with a decent chance of your selection lining up in the race. Too watered down now and far too many options. Every race should be a championship race like before. Just another way of lining the pockets of the greedy . Could you imagine paying nearly 700 quid for A travelodge room for ther week???? Thats what it costs! Robbing soandsos.Whoops

Aside for the disapointingly small field any thoughts on whether a small field is better for SS? On AF here but would have preferred a bigger field.
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 12, 2012 1:03 PM GMT
i will be backing menorah anyway.

horse cant jump but IF he happens to punt in a good round he is the best horse in the race imo, big iff but will just play small for interest.

front runners dont win the arkle so thats CC out for me. mullins cant win it surely.

al ferof has a chance if pace is strong enough and im hoping my theory that the fav wont get up the hill/find much off the bridle leaving me with the higest raterd hurdler in the field who loves the course to go and win it.

long shot really but i wanna take this fav on.

punters often want to take on short priced runners when they have not fully confirmed their potential. I still remember people slating Kauto Star back in 2006 when he first started smashing VPU and Exotic Dancer. They just did not want to believe the evidence before their eyes and the same is sort of happening with Sprinter Sacre.

The trainer, jockey and all the connections have expressed their opinion that this is the next super star chaser. He is currently the second highest rated 2 mile chaser based on just 3 runs, only Sizing Europe is higher rated, he has smashed every horse in a matter of strides and never come off the bridle, he has produced fast times in every run and he jumps like a buck, he is really clever at his fences.

This is an absolute beast, a champion in waiting who (as long as he stays sound) will be winning top class races by the bucket load. He is head and shoulders above his generation. Barry Geraghty says he is better than Moscow Flyer for lawds sake!

But there will still be nay sayers just like there have been with Sea The Stars, Frankel, and Kauto Star even when he has won half a dozen Grade 1 chases and blitzed everything he raced against.

It is a total monster, don't say you weren't warned
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 12, 2012 1:22 PM GMT
but the horse has questions to answer getting up the hill which he didnt so people are entitled to oppose him and have a reason too. if he wins then he just confirms that hes not a flat track bully but up to now thats when hes been winning and where hes been campaigned so u have to ask yourself why sometimes!

hes odds on rick, youre telling us nothing we dont know already.
Report the bairn March 12, 2012 1:26 PM GMT

watchit when is the last time all the good things won?

has it ever happened? at least one will be beaten and im happy to take on SS in the arkle, hasnt even won at the course yet. its a vary cheap lay and ill have a lay in at 1.5 and 1.2 so even if he wins its little damage done!
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 12, 2012 1:31 PM GMT
well yes bairn, thats the point. hes odds on for a festival race where all his main contenders have won at the course and festival races, 2 supreme winners and one who beat the fav for starters, a bumper winner who likes the course and the odds on fav hasnt even won at the track. its a cheap lay for an UNPROVEN horse round here because thats what he is.

i bet u were saying the same about cue card last yearCrazy
Report judorick March 12, 2012 1:32 PM GMT

cue card in the supreme and this horse in the arkle are not in the slightest alike
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 12, 2012 1:37 PM GMT
i DONT know rick, thats the point.

had he run at the course and got up the hill it would be differecnt but at this point, as impressive as he has been, if people are backing a horse at odds on to do something its never done and infact failed to do last year then thats their own business. hes just not for me at the prices. if he wins then grand, i wont lose any sleep laying a 1.5 / 1.2 winner.
Report pandy March 12, 2012 1:42 PM GMT
i hate to say it but wasnt sprinter sacre beaten by al ferof at last years festival they are 2 fantastic prospects to be gold cup horses in a couple of years but i dont think ss stays up that hill and im on al ferof ive been on it since the season started when he wins its queen mother next year then gold cup the year after
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 12, 2012 1:48 PM GMT
exactly.

he might win by a fence and if he does then fair play but ill say it AGAIN, he in a festival race and he hasnt even won at the track AND hes been beaten by al ferof who reopposes. of course SS has improved for fences but he still hasnt proved himself round chelt so i choose to take him on at odds on and will lay at 1.5 and if he wins then so what, cheap price to pay for it.

youd go broke backing horses like him at that price.

Just eight to line up for the Queen Mother irishracing.com
)
Last year's winner Sizing Europe heads a select field of eight declared for Wednesday's sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.

Henry de Bromhead's 10-year-old is likely to be a warm order to repeat his win of 12 months ago when he defeated the previous year's winner Big Zeb.

The latter will try to regain his title, but was beaten 15 lengths by Sizing Europe in the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown last month.

However, Colm Murphy is expecting a better performance from Big Zeb this time.

There is a third Irish challenger in the shape of the Noel Meade-trained Realt Dubh, who was third in last year's Arkle.

Heading the home brigade is the Nicky Henderson-trained Finian's Rainbow, runner-up in last year's Arkle. Completing the line-up are Gauvain, I'm So Lucky, Kauto Stone and Wishfull Thinking.

The two withdrawals at the 48-hour final declaration stage were Somersby and Blazing Tempo, who both hold entries in Thursday's Ryanair Chase.

I think there have been a few horses won at Cheltenham that haven't won there before, if you know what I mean, he has only ran there once, ran superb as far as I could see, he looks an even better horse this year, with his wind operation helping, just look at Paintball on sat. for example, so to sum up, name a fault which has held him back this season. horses can improve you know. cheers.

I think too much is being made of the 'won't get up the hill/others are gonna try to run him into the ground' argument. People orget that if Cue Card and Al Ferof try to do that, they'll end up legless themselves and put their jumping under severe pressure. I fancy Blackstairmountain to hunt around at the back and finish second to Sprinter.

He's got no excuses now. small field to dictate, drying ground to aid his speed....not being funny but if Al Ferof out battles him again then he's just not good enough.

will be an epic race despite the turnout...SS on the pace, Al Ferof stalking...will be awfully interesting if Cue Card and Menorah can avoid mistakes.

Question for me....How long will Ruby wait...I'd like to see him make his move straight after the water...look to start applying pressure running into that big open ditch at the top and keep it going all the way downhill and into the home straight. Dont give SS a chance to break free...or for that matter Cue Card. will be epic this race whatever happens.
Report GodsOfWar March 13, 2012 12:24 AM GMT
Guys. If i backed Cue Card antepost , do they still play out 3 places now? I can't find a definitive answer on this. You guys are probably the best bet!
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 13, 2012 12:55 AM GMT
yes u will get paid 3 places

gl
Report breadnbutter March 13, 2012 12:57 AM GMT
definate answer is you get paid 1-2-3  PROABLY AT 1/5th a place .
have backed CC and Menorah e/w and very happy the race has cut up.
If menorah puts its best foot forward its not without a squeak
CC is probably just not good enough but can inject a bit of pace between the last two but i think SS is a monster that probably wont come off the bridle to run away from them going to the last.
A slow early pace  could count against Al ferof .
As far as SS not proving himself at chelt is concerned i dont agree with that one bit ,this horse was always going to be a chaser and was needing a bit of time ,its run last year does it loads of credit ,its a good looker with all the muscles in the right places and i expect it to jump this lot into submission.

have i bet it ....NO  dont do 4/5 chances at the festival but if i did this would be the horse .
Report Rod Tidwell March 13, 2012 7:16 AM GMT
place terms will not get changed...if you bet at 1/4 odds 123 ante post that is what you will get....would never get changed to 1/5 just because there are 6 runners now
