He was a good jock in his time and had the ability to improve horses - im sure he might have been one of the first trainers to use steroids.

The Pipe horses useted to lead all the way.....get caught & pull away again all of a sudden riders in the "tour de France" were nicked ....as they could now detect this "stamner enhancing" drug.............the Pipe horses dont run like that since then ....BUT thats got nothing to do with it!

Derek Kent had a world wide racing ban imposed in The mid 80s by the Hong Kong jockey club. That proves he must have been a fair trainer.

Kent had a fairly decent chaser called Narribinni in the late 1970's. I'm pretty sure it beat Dramatist one day and also finished 2nd to Diamond Edge. Think it also ran in the old Embassy Premier Chase Final at Haydock one year.

he first achieved fame in the 50's as a showjumper. He was top class and competed on tv in the Horse of the Year show.Sadly I can remember this detail.

I don't recall him as a jockey. Met him at Chepstow once during the Grand Canyon era and was affable enough. The daft starter Peter Haynes was his jock.
