they don't close them all at the same time for reasons that are not at all clear to me. for instance, the Champion Chase antepst closes tomorrow, a day ahead of the other Wed races. on thursday the World Hurdle and Ryanair are a day earlier, and on friday the Gold Cup. I don't know why it is, presumably there is a very good reason of which I am ignorant, but the important thing is that there is no cause for alarm

@sugarfoot -- Grade One races have 48-hour decs. The rest don't.

Supreme / Arkle are Grade 1s though?

@Stake & Chips: good point. It is only non-novice Grade 1s that have 48-hour decs.
Here is the rule: Declarations to run and declarations of Riders for all Grade 1 non Novice Steeple Chases and hurdle races and non Juvenile hurdle races will take place 2 days before running. In addition, Grade 3 steeple chases and hurdleraces, and such other races as the Authority may specify, MAY have 48 hour declarations, at the option of the Racecourse Managing Executive. The Grand National also has 48-hour decs, for instance, under that last exception. http://rules.britishhorseracing.com/pdf/BHA_rules_export_126034.pdf |
