Trainers are like politicians ..they soften you up with this and that and slowly soaks into the subconcious as ..well yeah i sort of get it. We then lose sight of the reality of it all... This clearly shows the festival has become too diluted. The Championship races are single runner affairs...with no bite to them..
Deprives the public of a proper sporting contest...
Terrible decision

it does happen every year but most of the time connections suggest throughout the year its going to be a late call,as in the case of grands crus thats fair enough, but in this case the arkle was always the target, maybe when the season started he hadnt heard of betfair.

I wouldn't say its a 'bad decision' at all, people talking through their pockets again. I think SS has scared them all off and if i were the owner and the trainer said do you want to run in a grade one or have a cheltenham winner i would choose the winner.
No matter what the excuses for his thrashing by SS at kempton was, the trainer and owner both realise that turning the tables on SS is near impossible, right decision.

Money has poisoned a lot of sport and has also infected Horse Racing at the highest level.
i am not talking about betting and gambling.
I am talking about it as a sport...Peddlers Cross should be going toe to toe with Sprinter Sacre and Al Freof and Cue Card .
I'd like to get Gingers version of it , sadly we cant now. but am pretty sure i know his response..

i am not talking through my pocket in fact it suits me that peddlers goes for the jewson,i also think its the right decision as to the horses chances of winning at the festival, the point is it was never suggested at any stage until last week, punters deserve better than that.

decisions like this just prove that the greed of the management at cheltenham has led to a massive dilution of the festival these relatively new races add nothing to the meeting except pound notes in the cheltenham coffers leaving the meeting looking bloated and in many cases not throwing up the ultimate championships that they should

PC has always had a jewson entry, they thought it was a better horse than it is, they thought PC couldn't be beat as far as it was by SS and like alot of things in life its hard to change your opinion and you make excuses but over time common sense prevails.
The races it has run in suggests the Arkle was ALWAYS its target but as the season has gone on it has become clear that SS is something special, 6 months ago you would of been guessing that it was so imo DM has made the right decision, whether its prep for the Jewson has been is another debate all together.

i agree its the right decision for the horse and in a previews i did on the jewson ,i stated that if pc was to change from the arkle to the jewson it would have an outstanding chance.
what is dissapointing that as ever the layers on here have nicked a few quid over the last week or so.

But thats the game, antepost isn't and never will be easy, I have a few mates who have over 20 years experience betting and they don't touch antepost anymore due to fingers burnt.

in this case the trainer has a blog or whatever you call them on this exchange,he had the platform to keep people updated if he wanted to.
regarding anti post it has become a mind field ,and we still havnt got to boston bob, grands crus, sir des champs yet not to mention what might happen to the front two in the gold cup.

Can't agreed with that at all, if I'm paying the training and vets fees then its up to me who I let know not the trainer.
As for the other horses you mention, top class horses can win a variety of races, Rudy has stated that he thinks BB could win a champion hurdle, Black cavier is moving up in distance this year!
If you owned Grand crus which race would you run him in now cus we're only 1 WEEK away and i wouldn't know which one to go for and you expect trainers to know six months in advance!!! Things happen, races get cut up, this is WHY trainers multi enter horses.

It's kind of logical when you think about it considering peddlers won a point over 3m and they've always considered him as a potential gold cup horse. Therefore going for the jewson just seems like the natural progression. It was surprising he was such a good 2m hurdler imho.

People expect every possibility to be mentioned just incase of a shock change, ante post = minimum bet only imo.
the plans for the horse are the business of the connections they are the ones footing the bills, from a gamblers point of view you pay your money and take your chance if you are shocked by things like this its best you dont bet till race day.

if i owned grands crus i would go for the gold cup,i would find it a hard choice but in the end 12 months is a long time in horse racing.
regarding training fees and owners having the right to know first then off course i agree, perhaps though these trainer blogs on here should be knocked on the head.

well what you have is neuterd version of the real thing..whilst there are some worhy additinons.
The emasculation of the Big Championship races Has blown a whopping great big hole in the side of what Cheltenham stands for...
Peddlers Cross should be too highly rated to even have an entry in The Jewson. The authorities should do something about it by using ratings to prevent this happening.
Sad Mad Bad Celtic Swingesque Day Cheltenham

the grands crus thing is different to peddlers cross, everybody has known since boxing day its 50/50 and a late decision will be made anybody taking a strong view which race to back or lay the horse in was doing so knowing the risk,

Having had a couple of anti post bets on Peddlers myself, iam a bit mad about it and it does effect my pocket which is what betting horses is all about for me,( winning money) I play a fair bit in the A'P markets & it has been gd 2 me over many years, sure there are unfortunate setbacks with taking a long term early view on big races so to gain a large price on your horse or horses for these races, its part of the risk. Sadly for me and am sure a gd few others this news about Peddlers is a bit of a blow, but we must take it on the chin and move on, we cannot let it affect our judgement and we can get our money back & more if we think that Peddlers will win the Jewson nov ch, which i think he will. Personally iam more mad about the top Fr colt Dabirsim not coming over for our 2000 Gs, for which i had a very gd bet on at 18s on betfair to win, sore one!! On the brighter side of things ( at the mo) i still have a gd book of A'P bets for Chelt & the Flat Classics 2 look forward to, fingers X. Roll on next wk & my fav the Flat season.

From a betting point of view, you are missing the point Lady C. I took the 12s about Peddlers on here after the Kpt race, as i was sure that there was something amiss with him on the day (which there was) so for me (at the time) it was a smart move. I.E, When you can back a horse at 12s & then lay it off at about 3s on the day of the race, then thats gd ££ bizz. Unfortunately it did not work out this time. For example, i also bet Sprinters at the start of the season for the Arkle at 10s & can now lay that of at aprox evens, which i will be doing. Making money from this great sport is about more than just finding the winner of the race.

If u look at the stats for the Arkle you will see that it is won by the highest rated hurdler very often. PC was the highest rated by some way. Kempton there was an excuse, if u think that was PCs true running you have very little idea. He was the only horse to get H Fly off the bridle all year. I have no doubt at all that SS is a very good horse, but I doubt very much that he would beat PC as easily again ceteris paribus.

Like i said Lady C, you are missing the point. Free money NO, Smart ways of making money YES every time. But no hard feelings on this matter, we all have our own ways of doing things. All the best and i hope you have a very great Chelt.

Unless you're peddlers vet, taking 12/1 about an injured horse isn't a smart way to make money!
Harry
If SS and PC ran five times against each other it would be 5-0 SS.
