Chappers should be for bringing horse racing into disrepute. I think the general census is from all he was very poor today. His enthusiasm is good for the game but his commentating is not. Far too shouty.

if 'Croc' is indeed stood down, as is rumoured, and chapman becomes a fixture that would be a travesty; never mind accuracy, delivery counts for so much. john budden 'delivered' professionally but, unfortunately, age beat him.

I agree he is unbearable. The sad thing his commentaries are accurative and informative but his ego-driven shouting destroys everything. Calm down dear.

He's a great presenter but there are a hell of a lot of good commentators out there and he is not one of them. To think he might have elbowed aside somebody better than him makes me cringe. A good commentator you don't notice because it is not about them - with Chapman it seems his ego takes over and he tries to be too different in a very LOUD way. Unpleasant.

He is giving the commentary which the shoddy 2 bob races deserve. I like him.

WTF has winning or losing got to do with yesterdays commentary? Only the other day i said what a great job Matt done at Suddel he had toned it right down and got it spot on.Yesterday ruined it all again.

The biggest problem with Chapman commentating is that it makes Thompson sound a real professional...

He is always going to have to battle against his natural instinct to be loud and opinionated imo and I think he may struggle to do that commentating.
Personally I hope he calms down and just concentrates on the race itself....not the horses breeding or what their sire/dams won etc
Also I fear he may fall into the Smudger or Catt trap of saying what he thinks may happen rather than what is happening.....good luck to him though as I think he may need it !!

It's good prep for us for the Olympics when commentators will be yelling and hooping about a Brit who comes third,with barely a mention of the winner.

Accuracy,very good.All he has to do is learn to build up the decibels as the race unwinds over the last couple of furlongs.
Build it up to a crescendo,not starting too loud Matt.After all racing is mostly about the finish.
Also leave aside the irrelevant comments,otherwise it will get to be another Tommo!!

He was told he was no good as a commentator 12 months ago, and he is certainly no better than the likes of Jim McGrath and he is no good at all.
