Cop 'em for Chelters !   Wink
Report comingupthehill February 19, 2012 6:47 PM GMT
it always goes up chelthenham week, - why not, they could do a bulky form version ,i.e last 6 runs,no articles news/just cards and form, given a choice a chelthenham goer would buy the form one,but if they were clever they could have a version out for end of racing - for next day -all runners/form etc, they would sell 20,000 in cheltheham, thats 80k for the week.

punters are treeted to a free racecard from gloucester herald - thats what you ve got to look at the next days runners.

PN - that's EXACTLY what they think Angry

You can subscribe and it's still impossible to track down a particular article Shocked

You used to be able to read back issues by a particular date (FOR FREE) but that's been withdrawn as well!

Even the polls they've done over the years are nowhere to be seen Sad

I'd love to see the bastards have some competition, as they provided to The Sporting Life, and then see them trumpet how technological advances have miraculously enabled them to lower the costs!

I will NOT give them a bean any more, and out of spite, someone should copy & paste each issue and put it all online for everyone Grin
Report comingupthehill February 19, 2012 7:46 PM GMT
the post should price web site in accordance with other daily newspapers, not like some raceform interactive option.

the bha need to get at least joint control of all the back dated form,as they can effectively hold racing to ransome and charge what it wants which may drive customers away, what if they went bust or got shut down like the NOW ,racing needs the database of past results,or at least control of it.

Report roggrain February 19, 2012 8:21 PM GMT
In France and the US you can purchase the next day's form ('Paris Turf'/'Daily Racing Form') the morning of the previous day. They contain complete form,in the case of the 'DRF' the last 12 starts of every runner.
I don't bother with the paper version of the Racing Post. It's totally inadequate for any serious player.
It hasn't altered it's format to suit the times. It should also be instramental in bringing in sectional timing but hasn't done anything to bring that about.
A subscription to it is a waste of money imo.

Too right.

No doubt the cost they put up for RUK replays which is unprofitable, because no-one was going to pay for something they can get free elsewhere. So they just throw it in the package for everyone else and give them no choice whether they want it or not, knowing they can get away with it.
Report Sainsbury February 20, 2012 10:49 AM GMT
i think its good value, youve got to get form from somewhere, raceform interactive, form book etc, everthings on the rp site if you search for it,i know you can grt replays for free elsewhere but its still great value

Actually it seems to only make sense to get the annual subscription at £130 or the Ultimate @ £208.  I think the Ultimate would be more interesting if they included some of the editorial and normal pricewise.
Report crepello February 20, 2012 9:20 PM GMT
SA - I think £208 for the year is a steal - I certainly would find life difficult without it - it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I use it to store all my own ratings and comments - all the replays are there on the same site - it is invaluable to me and for £4 a week .......

it could be improved by having the reasons for non-runners on the site the way they have in the paper & on the BHA site.
Report TheHonestScouser February 20, 2012 10:29 PM GMT
Some good points here about BHA intervention.  In the U.S. the form is provided online for free.
The BHA talk about selling our racing product for free but when you have the likes of RP site & RUK bleeding the industry dry then it can only drive people away from the sport

If the BHA had any clue whatsoever of how to market & promote increased racing interest & add additional betting turnover, then they should take control of form & provide it for free, along with pictures & those courses looking to charge for pictures should have their meetings withdrawn.

More people reading form & watching racing increases turnover.  It is so phkn obvious it drives me crazy thinking how stupid these people that run the sport must be to overlook it

thehonestscouser is 100% correct, i myself have never been a subscriber to the rp members club and never will, i don't follow tips and never have done, i can watch replays on sporting life and atr and the only members club thing that interests me is topspeed, but why should i join to get that, i already buy the weekender which has topspeed anyway.
Report onlooker February 21, 2012 1:48 AM GMT
thehonestscouser is 100% WRONG.

As far as I am aware - there is NOWHERE on the Internet where USA FORM is FREE.

DRF - Daily Racing Form, Brisnet, Equibase - ALL charge by the Meeting, or Race even - at a far greater  overall cost than RacingPost do, by the Week or Month.

ALL THE FORM IS FREE on RACINGPOST- WITHOUT SUBSCRIBING to MEMBER'S CLUB.

Heaven help us if the BHA got exclusive rights to Racinng FORM -

They WOULD then be charging 'an arm and a leg' ..... Just as Peter Savil WANTED to do for RACECARDS.

It is abundantly clear  that - The vast majority of respondents on this thread have NO Comprehension whatsoever of what FORM actually means, and is.

As for Video Replays ....

Well they are of NO USE whatsoever, too - If you can convert what you have watched into compatible relative FORM.
Report spion-kop February 21, 2012 2:53 AM GMT
i have no interest in american horse racing

yes the form is free on the rp website but for how much longer, the members club price hike tells me they must be in the 5hit

why would the bha charge and arm and a leg, that would be like argos charging for their catalogues

i understand form as do many others on here

as for video replays, if they are no use whatsoever then why only allow access via members club when they are freely avaialble elsewhere.

I did not - as you selectively type - say that they are of No Use (absolute} ...

The REST of my sentence read ...

"If you can* convert what you have watched into compatible relative FORM."

* There is my inadvertent 'typo' in there - as it obviously should have read .....

"If you *canNOT convert what you have watched into compatible relative FORM.

I cancelled my membership some months ago.  Can't believe they are putting the price up again when a lot of the info can be found elsewhere.  I expect the price increase won't last for long as masses of people will be leaving surely.
