Not sure of underrated but David Bridgewater was as good as McCoy until he was injured and had to retire. Not sure Tony would have won so many titles...

Bridgewater wouldn't lace A.P' boots at any time imo.

I always thought Cash Assmusen was as good as any Jockey riding.

Agree with regarding Cash Acey, would have been more appreciated now.

Surely Cochrane wasn't underrated Trimmer!Shocked

I'll add the much maligned Greville Starkey a 'great' in my book.

Interesting, isn't it - Opinion.

I would have to put 'cocky Cochrane' in the OVER-rated bracket.

... and ANNOYING - given his penchant for always wanting to go for impossible runs up the rails.

Jamie Spencer is the most underrated jockey riding on the flat at the moment and Tony McCoy the most overrated jockey over the jumps if not of all time.

As ATR loon Mit Chipman, alas The Ranter, says, its only an opinion, thoo he through his toys out the pram yesterday, when someone disagreed with his, word has it, all they said was he did not agree with The Ranter opinion of Philip and Peter Hobbbs, as being Great Jockeys, The Ranter threw a right wobbly, they had to sedete him during the advert to calm him down, it is the worst keep secret, Mitt and his disorders, Whoops

Cochrane went through a bad spell for a couple
of seasons(could have been by design),but if you
watch some of them big field d.caps, the way he got his
mount to sit on the bridle, imo.he was the best since Piggott.
I think Hughie over the last 2 years has been the same.

One of the best in Ireland is John Cullen. You get nice odds on his fancied mounts as he's not as fashionable as the big boys.

Will get a good job next year...watch this space.

Willie Ryan was v good imo.  Ride on Benny the Dip when he stole the 1997 Derby was awesome. Shame he didn't get more big chances as no. 2 at Warren Place.

agree with Jamilla, Jamie Spencer is currently the most underrated on flat. Also think Pat Smullen doesn't get enough accolades.

Re topfarriers post - Many very good judges thought a great deal of Starkey.   Mind you he was already a professional as an apprentice!

jimmy fortune has to be one of the strongest  in a finish even the great fallon said last year he is the last jockey you want to see on your shoulder in a driving finish

Agree with trimmer about Ray Cochrane also he was excellent on hold up handicappers getting them up on the line seemed to have a lot of short head winners.Oscar Urbina for his ability to get a horse the required handicap mark.

Always thought Bruce Raymond was hugely underrated. Solid top 10 jockey every year but thought he deserved to be much higher. Also was extremely good over a long period of time (early 70's to early 90's)
