Firefox 10.0

Anyone please, before I make another huge error???

I recently tried out Opera and Google Chrome, they fly compared with Internet Explorer.

The same can be said for Ace Explorer.

I think the reason is because IE will do anything, but the others might have some functions missing.

I've got five browsers on my computer.

Dr Crippen, perhaps I should have mentioned that I can only deposit money on purple with Firefox....for some reason I don't know the answer to.

You're probably best off with IE, I'm posting this using Opera.

It's really fast on the Racing Post site but the snag is - I can't load a market on Betfair using it, so it's pretty useless for striking a bet.

Like I said if it's faster, it's usually at the expense of something else.

I’m no expert either by the way.

Thanks for your input Dr. If I use IE, I can't deposit money into my purple account for some reason. I have phoned them several times, and they can't come up with an answer.

No idea, m8. I use a pc but am thinking of getting a laptop, I will ask delta about spec.

Dr Crippen, call me paranoid, but every time I switch on, (approx 20 minutes) AOL prompt me to use there 30 day 'free' trial to clean up my laptop. I'm convinced it's on purpose, as I'm protected by the free version from AVG.

Firefox have gone through their rather ridiculous BETA range - from versions 4 to 8.

Everything fine from version 9 onwards - and I took the Version 10 UPDATE a couple of days ago - with the same performance as version 9.

Do yourself a favour ... Give anything to do with AOL the whizz.

Betfair themselves will tell you that OPERA is NOT compatible with Betfair.

Internet Explorer is one of the slowest Browsers available - and, again, is far from being anywhere near the best for Betfair.

On straightforward answer ...

CHROME - the lightest, least complicated,  Browser of the lot, for Betfair

Firefox for RacingPost - because you can then download and deploy the Flashblock and Adblock 'Add-Ons' for Firefox - to get rid of lots of the peripheral annoyances, and unwanteds, on there.

Thanks onlooker. Strangely enough, before I ditched google chrome, I could access the purple website no problem, but again, could not deposit money.

I'm thinkig it's time to spend a monkey on a 500 GB laptop and change my service provider. (I've had good reports about Plusnet, and the helpline is free) Having said that, Plusnet said it could take up to ten days for things to 'settle down'. ie, until they can get the best speed for me??

Like putting Aviation Fuel in an 850 Mini ..... the engine ani't made for it - so it won't make any diference ...

lol onlooker. Will do Delta. Just as a matter of interest, I have a Toshiba Equium laptop with 60 GB, which cost 799. Ms  Stew has aN older Tobisha laptop, that cost 1199 and it's only got 40 GB and it works far better than mine! (Although I use mine mostly every day)

Forget UPload speed - That is ALWAYS significantly LESS -  no matter what your Upload speed ...

Unfortunately, as that UPload Speed is the Speed that your Bets are sent back go back to Betfair

Even the LATEST TOP SPEC machines need to have 'housework' done regularly - in order to maintain performance ... most especially with a 'speed sensitive site like Betfair'

Do you REGULARLY DELETE Cookies - and  CLEAR your Cache (ie: Temporary Internet files)?

If you do NOT do even those TWO BASICS - then your 9 year old Laptop stands no chance whatsoever.....

- and if you spend a monkey on a new one - then carry on the same old way - then that will start to S L O W Down, progressively, too.

I do that at least once a week onlooker, but it makes no difference. It still takes me 20 minutes to sign on. Having said that, I don't know how to delete cookies and files on Firefox.

Be grateful if you could go through that with me. (off to my kip now)

Firefox - Deletions are a doddle.

From the Toolbar across the top of your screen -

LEFT Click on 'Tools' > - a Pop-Up box appears >

Third Item from the bottom > Clear Recent History > LEFT Click on that >

another Pop-Up frame appears > at the Bottom > 'Clear Now' -

Done.

Stewarty,the 500Gb you refer to is the hard drive capacity which has no bearing on the operating speed of your computer,the things that matter are
1.The processor,the new i series are supposed to be good,they are i3,i5 and i7
2.The RAM capacity,the more the merrier 4Gb minimum I would think.

you will see a Toshiba with an i3 proceessor and 4Gb RAM for £349,this is just an example and I wouldn't buy from PC world,however this is a good laptop at a reasonable price,as they say a lot depends on the download speed from your ISP but no matter what it is this laptop will be much better than the one you have.

Can anyone explain why I cannot watch Betfair video or listen to Betfair/Sporting Wife radio on Firefox 9, is there a plug-in I need to download? IE works fine but is very slow on Betfair.

No probs Stewarty,to give you an idea of what the newer ones are like,in 20 mins yesterday I switched on my computer,downloaded The Inbetweeners movie and watched the first 10mins of it!and mine isn't as new as the above.

Must be something else.
You get a choice of player at the bottom of the popup that comes up on Betfair radio.

Try both.

Im back using Safari and is running better. Firefox is off my menu unless speed improves

Recently I've been unable to play replays on Firefox from Timeform racepasses, but only from ATR sources. RTV embedded video still works. I haven't been able to work out why. Everything is OK using Chrome or Opera, although Opera has an annoying glitch of loading a page, then going blank for about three seconds before reloading it. With Chrome, the scrollbar takes ages to appear. I use Firefox when I can, everything else is fine and its what I'm used to.

steerforth, have you tried goig into firefox settings, under Privacy, scroll down to Permissions and then have a look in 'autoplay' to make sure you that you have the 'default for all websites' set to 'Allow Audio and Video'?

Betfair video doesn't always work with Firefox. I switch to Edge, it plays on there okay.

Thanks TT - Tried that as well. The strange this is that the Timeform site does play video, but only if the source is an RTV recording. Any ATR recording shows the icon to click but all greyed out and nothing happens when clicked. I initially assumed it was a Timeform issue but they sad not, suggested trying a different browser and that worked. The problem started in january, prior to that Firefox was fine. Everything plays in Chrome, but I prefer Firefox. Its a nuisance.

Cracked it - TTs message prompted me to have a closer look at settings and it looks like it was a privacy tracker setting (Privacy Badger) that was causing the problem - I've disabled it for the TF website and its back to normal. Cheers all.
