It really is shocking these days.  I don't blame the people behind the counter.

THERE IS NO TRAINING NOW WHATSOEVER.

The sentiment remains at help desks, or complaints, where they are largely clueless regarding their own rules.
Report cadizza • October 27, 2011 12:44 AM BST
Probably the new District Manager that on training mate.

Where in Leeds was that?

WH last Friday 8-45pm went for a price on one for Sat, to be particullarly told, "THAT IS ANTE POST SIR" and you take the risk of losing if NR.  I grinned, wished him all the best, and carried on my way.

It's the training mainly and also lack of actual Managers - some of whom have been in the games years that are clueless as well.

Manager recently at Hills got permission to lay on a 49's bet.

It's dire, it's poor, it's horrendous.

He is a nice (but very dim) lad, but completely deluded.
Regretfully a perfect specemin to adhere to his employers hideous ethos.
Report cadizza • October 27, 2011 1:23 AM BST
How about the District Manager who recently suggested giving away free 10p bets to get the Hot Box Greyhound bets going?

Or having Pizza nights to encourage people to play on FOBT'S?

Or the Sunday Buffet to encourage people in to the shops?

2 of these 3 things actually went ahead as well.

cadizza

I was very sorry to here that you "left" your previous job, from reading the FOBT thread.

It takes enormous stregth of character & resolve to make such a stand. There really are some revolting people out there who "pretend" they know better and take advantage of human frailties.

Cheers.

Bullies the lot of them, a lot has come out in the wash as well.

I walked in to a Corals last year during CheltFest and selected six horses. I numbered them one through six because it saves writing the names each time (I worked for a BM and had used only numbers).
I identified the doubles and trebles that I wanted by listing the numbers (so doubles: 1 and 4, trebles: 2,4 and 6 etc.) I totalled all bets up in neat rows, didnt bother with prices and sauntered off over to the counter with my stake - it was early, quiet and the manager took the slip.

Anyway, after some twenty minutes of verbal abuse he decided to bar me (I had never been in that shop before and was passing that bit of urbia for the first time in years).
He could not get the bet - which only consisted of 16 doubles and trebles. At first he demanded I use the known formats and pre-printed slips; then he snatched the slip out of my hand, hurting my thumb in the process and then, finally, he decided I was 'up to no good', demanded I tell him what I hoped to con out of him and shouted at me to leave.
I accused him of being a lush and left; I am convinced he was still sweating out the nights lubrication.

I should have known better - I got in to a tangle with a manager of another Corals in the same town a few years before.
I wrote a price on a horse and then asked for that price to be checked but the girl was so busy chatting on the phone that she could not be bothered. She gave me the slip back and I asked again if she had checked and circled the price, she had no idea what I was going-on about and so we stood looking at one another across the counter...
The horse waltzed home later that day at much better odds than the early show and I went to collect. And of course the manager had settled at the shorter price even though she acknowledged that it had not been checked by her staff.
It took some time but I ultimately got banned there as well.
So I hate Corals, no matter they be male female young or old, on the basis of my random survey they appear to be a pack of idiots. So if this new-fangled internet thing does for them, then good riddance.

Can believe that slothrop, went in my local korals to have a bet on a rugby match,a handicap, the price was 10/11.as bet  was £550 they said they had to phone up and get it authorised  so i said ok no problem.Guy on phone said you can have bet but price was now 8/11 even though 10/11 was still on screen, anyway i said ok ,with that he said just check with guy on the other end of phone and he was told (i heard himm) tell him he can have 8/13!!.
Told em thanks but no thanks...ps bet got stuffed

You should hand them a slip with the name Hugh Janus on it and ask them to phone up and get the price for the Open Championship or another Golf Tourny

See how long it takes these thickets to get it.

The most annoying now we have epos is the "new" girl when you ask for a price on a horse , your slip clearly states the time and meeting yet it takes her flicking thru the menu 4 times then 6 more screens and staring at the CORRECT screen for 30 seconds before she realises it is there, then yes you guessed it "Sorry it's 5/2 now from 7/2" and epos doesn't do discression

For some unknown reason the staff aren't taught to have the current race on their monitor, and as soon as that is off get the next race on their monitor.Oh no,that's hard work!!Should be a must, but unfortunately it isn't.
They have "quick" buttons where they can flick between dogs and horses instantly, just one click, but they probably have never been shown how to use them.

The best experience I've ever had was in my local indy. The owner was off so he'd left his cassier/gob **** in charge.
I had an each way bet where they were paying on the first three. My horse dead heated for second place. When I went for the money she tried to pay me as if it had dead heated for third place.I could not get it through to her that there wasn't a third horse as the placings were taken up by the winner plus the two that dead heated for second.I even said to her, well place my third, but unfortunately the thick thing couldn't see it.I had to wait till the following day to see the owner before I got paid. She just couldn't grasp it.She must have ranked as one of the thickest that's ever worked in Bookmaking.

You shouldn't be asking about prices, you should be asking about Coronation St. or Eastenders, you then know you will get a correct instant answer!
