Although I am going home on Thursday I will be coming back to attend a parade on the 11th of November.

Never since WW2 has support of our troops been so dependent on the money generated by the poppy appeal. Not just for the troops themselves but also for families and dependents.

I thought perhaps we could call on Betfair to put up a thread inviting forumites to place a bet of £2 on a horse running between the 1st and 11th of Nov inclusive.

All winnings to be taken from accounts immediately after any winning selection and all winnings passed on to the British Legion. As well as administering the bets I would suggest BF could match every £2 loss with a donation of £2.

No limit on how many bets a forumite can have in the period suggested.

Would you support such a scheme?

fat dodgy, well said I know you're not everyone's mug of tetley on here but that's a goof point.  A better & long lasting solution as fd says is to put pressure on the government to look after relatives of badly injured & dead servicemen & their relatives. _

They then might also then think twice before being involved in so many wars.

Get a petition together & everyone would sign it, they'd have to do something then

Nice sentiment asking for Government to help, will never happen or be enough.

FD when you start paying taxes I hope they do get used sensibly,if you stopped paying for taxis to visit Effie McGlumpher in Saltcoats you could contribute a fair few £s.LaughDevil

dont get me wrong i am all for supporting our lads, but when they are sent out their to do a job and some of these lads mums are stumping up 600 notes for the proper kevlar flak jackets there has to be summit well wrong, do you know the MOD could not account for 6 billions pounds worth of equipment at last audit ffs

I know full well the MOD accounting FD,1982 I reported an inventory of £300k + equipment lying in a hangar.Left behind when a squadron moved out, nothing done,no heads rolled and left to rot.

Doesnt alter the fact that the lads and lasses need our support.

i know but isnt this short termism that will only ever paper over the cracks, I was in the US last year and the one thing you could say about the Yanks is that in the main they get well supported by the nation.

i will leave this thread as its very much a personal decision but i do believe that if something is broke it can be fixed by throwing enough money at it, only a government can do this so everything else is window dressing, just makes usre if you really care about this to ask yer elected MP wot effect all those MOD cuts will have on the frontline troops doing our dirty work then getting fecked over when or if they return....

Spelling and grammar not your strong point Dave?

Dancing like Fraudboy, keep bumping the thread, most welcome.

No such thing as bad publicity.

Btw I was in Scotland last week and there was a newspaper article questioning all the bigots chanting at Old Firm matches,90% plus did not know what they were singing about.

What terrace were you on?Laugh

There is this youngster who last year started a petition after she was stopped wearing her poppy at work.

She was on the local TV and got quite a few people to sign but her petition is not getting the signatures it deserves.

http://www.gopetition.com/petition/43263.html

For anyone who believes people should have a right to wear their poppy please give her your signature in support.

If people buy a poppy then as sure as hell they should be able to wear it and with pride.

i will leave you with this though, the only charities i do give to are in general natural disasters, i have given to tsunamis, flood volcanoes etc for years because i think its unreasonable to expect a government even one as rich as Japan to be able to react and deal with these situations, the only exception being Christchurch not because i didnt want to but because they didnt need it....

Fair play to you FD,not trying to start a crusade as daft Dave seems to think.Just a one off for now to raise a few £s.

My particular choice would be St Dunstans for lads and lasses who have lost their sight but get little if any coverage in the whole scheme of things.Losing sight is in many ways worse than losing a limb.

Always seems to be a Politico who has an agenda without knowing what the agenda is,why he is on here seems to indicate loneliness in life.

Btw sixgun,signed mate.

Cheers mate. It's not my petition but it seems obscene to me people can't wear their poppy.
