International observers and even many Libyans demand an investigation into the killings last Thursday, especially after amateur video footage appeared on the internet showing Gaddafi and his son alive and in rebel custody before they were killed. Libya’s chief pathologist told news agencies Gaddafi died of a bullet wound to the head. Late on Monday, the news website GlobalPost showed more amateur video footage showing a bloodied Col Gaddafi allegedly being sodomised with a long object. Libya’s interim leader, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, promised on Monday to form a committee to investigate the killings. But human rights activists in Libya questioned his sincerity. He did not specify a mechanism or point-person for the probe and promoted the unlikely scenario that Gaddafi’s own men killed him to prevent Libyans from putting him on trial. The country’s outgoing prime minister, Mahmoud Jibril, insisted to the end of his term on Sunday that Gaddafi was killed in the crossfire between revolutionary and loyalist forces despite mounting evidence to the contrary. |

as far as I can see nato made no attempt to protect civilians in sirte and permitted a scorched earth policy.I thought that was there UN mandated role in libya.
the only reference to nato activity in sirte was their bombing of a civilian convoy and that didnt get too widely reported.funny that. |
