Ruby walsh is alegend of our time and a credit to the sport |
By:
This won't happen - just Ruby and Nicholls using some PR sense to put the pressure on. Doing Darleys job for him.
By:
I suspect + certainly hope you are right I Say.
By:
Does Ruby realise how lucky he is riding for Paul Nicholls?.I get the impression he doesnt give two fecks about the job sometimes.
By:
Might be wrong but it is starting to appear as if some are taking the job out of Darleys hands - may well help produce a bit more clarity and speedier resolution, whichever way it goes.
By:
I think he does realise how lucky he is to be riding all those great horses for Nicholls, but he also has to stand up for what he believes in. These boys need to stick together and stand up to these clowns at the BHA once and for all. This whip rule saga is an absolute embarrassment. Like him or not he's taking a stance and it won't be long before this snowballs into something much bigger, hopefully!

Paul Nicholls loss Willie Mullins gain.
By:
Ruby proved at cheltenham last year that he favours riding for mullins over nicholls so it wouldn't take much for him to pack in UK racing.
By:
I think Ruby just picks the horse he thinks has the better chance, end of!

The new whip rules are simply ridiculous. I watched several horses come with chances over the weekend , only to have the jock stop using the persuader when it mattered most.
By:
Yeah but roy,if you were on the winner you would have been laughing.

Correct Acey!

Acey Ruby could hardly be considered lucky in view of the serious injuries he has had. I dont know how you could possibly conclude that "he doesnt give two fecks for the job". PN and WM know who the best jock around is - it is simple and his record proves it. Ruby had proved his class before he ever rode for PN. My understanding is that at Chelters Ruby can pick his ride and the other trainer accepts and Ruby normally gets it right so the "rejected" trainer/owner also then knows that theirs probably is not good enough to win anyway.

We have so many blank racing days over here, sometimes there's 3 days without a meeting,of course he'll be over and back as it suits him, prize money on the whole better here so he'll just continue as is.

By:
Dont think their is anything classy about threatening to quit yer job just cos you disagree with a rule change
By:
It is classy if the rule is an ass.
By:
What if,budda. the rule change makes it impossible for you to do your job properly?
By:
Come on this is exactly what is needed.
Until and unless top jockeys start throwing some weight about the BHA will be able to hide in their ivory tower spouting sh1t. I doubt he wants to stay over in Ireland but pressure must be brought to bear to make the BHA position so untenable that they change it or resign. |
By:
is it impossible to do your job properly though??
not a jockey myself so would not know, but i do know its possible to ride a horse within the rules, plenty are doing it right now. |
By:
and whatever yer opinion of a rule,it aint classy to quit
By:
Buddelia, try to accept that the jockeys know better than you,and that they are correct.Horsemen that do care about their horses!
By:
budd... I'm not a jockey but if one of the greats ,Ruby Walsh, makes a decision who should I believe, him or you?
By:
"It aint classy to quit."
But it might be necessary. The guy is going to lose some money. He is going to be painted in a bad light by some (certainly not me). He will not have taken this decision unless there are good reasons. It seems he cannot ride without being able to use the jockeys aid to encourage horses properly. So he isn't going to ride without the aid. |

By:
In the workplace through arbitration i had my case heard fairly and then the majority of those problems dealt with in the manner i requested i think i`d look pretty stupid to go out and break those rules, whether i thought them right or wrong.Quite frankly i think he has an overgrown sense of his own importance, there are many jockeys quite capable and willing to take his rides.
By:
Vectis, there is no arbitration in racing. The BHA is a law unto itself.
By:
nichols can wave goodbye to the trainers title then if jacobs is going to be no 1
By:
Rules are there to be discusssed, challenged when necessary. We should not meekly stand by unquestioningly. It seems to me very few jockeys are supportive of the rules. The PJA seem incapable of acting decisively in this issue so I am not surprised jockeys are voicing their frustration.
By:
Hughes said in his interview on RUK that they felt that the restriction of hits in the final furlong or from the last fence was a kind of trap, that was the bit to my ears that really bothered them as this was telling them how to ride a finish, this and the monetary penalties have been removed and yet they are still not happy.Do they just want it returned to the old rules? If so they should just say it.
By:
It is up to the senior jockeys like Ruby to tell it as it is. Many of the less successful jockeys cannot/cannot afford to do this. It is as simple as that.
By:
One thing is for sure Ruby Walsh is not irreplacable. No jockey is. I think his attitude is a bit of sour grapes because he has quickly succumbed to overuse of the whip. Whether you like the rule or not (which I dont by the way) it was there and you have to adhere to the rule and that is a fact. Its no use bleating after you have transgressed the rules because it does not suit.
By:
just aying it aint classy to quit, cos it aint!!
Plenty of jockeys are getting on with it despite not agreeing, pretty much the same as most of us in various different walks of life do. |
By:
If a newly introduced rule, which was unecessarily introduced, hinders you in the course of your work ,then you stand up for yourself and voice your opinion, as strongly as possible.
Intelligent bosses listen to the workforce, for many reasons, and it will produce successful results. I had a very happy factory workforce, paid well, and listeneed to any problems that may have cropped up. "You will do things this way",never has been, and never will be,the way forward, especially when it is thought to be a retrograde step. |
By:
Especially by people who know fark all about the job in the first place..
By:
Is that not what has occurred unbiased?Surely there must be give and take on both sides when changes are trying to be made?
By:
The BHA (The Jockey Clubb under a new name) have run racing into the ground. The value of races compared to 20 years ago is a disgrace.
The PJA is led by an ex jockey who says he had 'never heard of a corrupt race or ride} whilst he was riding. The blind and thick meeting the blind and dumb. No wonder this is a debacle. The jockeys with sense and intelligence, Ruby being one, need to step up and let these BHA mugs, and Darley, know that not being able to use the whip on a 3/4 ton chaser coming up the hill in heavy going at somewhere like Carlisle will end up with a jockey being injured |
By:
i do stand up for myself, but i cannot threaten to quit, and nor would i anyway, even if i could afford to financially,as Walsh obviously can.
Pretty much all the jockeys are doing their job whilst voicing their opinions,so why cant he?? |
By:
quitting is not the way to let them know though imo
By:
He hasn't quit, he would just prefer (at the moment) to ride in a Country that doesn't bow down to agenda ridden farkwits..
