Did anyone see William Buicks interpretation of the power behind a lash of the whip on whatever the farce shown Saturday mornings on Channel 4 is currently called?
It bore no resemblance to the arm extended above the shoulder full on crack usually metered out or the length of whips usually carried.

And what about the claim “modern whips don’t hurt, the horse responds to the noise made by the whip.”  If that’s true, why wouldn’t other horses close to the one being struck react to the same noise, thus negating any advantage?

And if these modern whips are so harmless’ why most recently have I been watching jockeys smoothing the whip marks from their mounts arse’s as they come back to the enclosures?

We've all seen examples such as idiots lashing into a horse that’s miles clear or conversely behind approaching the winning post.   In the past I’ve seen jockey’s strike their mounts after passing the post.
Then there is the example (caught on camera) of the jockey who’ll remain nameless lashing a horse across the face with the whip to encourage it to stop being naughty.

I am not an advocate of the whip ban; all that’s required is for stewards to come down heavy, very heavy on cruelty and blatant abuse of an animal.

Question: Which would you prefer if at all?

Six of the best across your bare arse administered by William Buick or to get up on an unknown horse without the aid of a whip to control the beast?

Those electing for the William Buick option form an orderly queue outside the Leicester weighing room.

From the reaction of Buick's victim, it was not quite as painless as he'd been led to expect.
