Anything else would be ridiculous.

You supposedly run the sport and the jockeys participate. It isn't the other way round.

There has been quite enough embarassment already. It is now time to simply tell the jockeys if you don't like the latest proposals go and find something else to do.

These days strikes achieve nothing and there is no reason to believe this should be any different.

Those active within the sport should hang there heads in shame. Ferdy Murphy aside, it appears they have either said nothing or supported the jockeys in bashing the BHA.

Ferdy Murphy aside

Had to laugh at this.. Now can you, in your obvious wisdom, please tell me why FM was happy (creaming himself) with the new-old whip rules ?

A wonderfully naieve view.  Your problem is that without the jockeys onside there would be no sport?

Kingmambo - and what would all these jockeys do if there was no sport?  Most would be too weak to go on the bins...

different keeps banging the same old drum and it's now pretty boring. Without jockeys who put their lives on the line every day there would be no sport. Have you got any other drivel to spout?

That might be so Aviboyd. Still, I'd rather them hold the sport to ransom, given that they are the ones charged with actually riding these horses, than the chinless wonders at the BHA or the likes of Animal Aid.

Dettori, who like Richard Hughes and Ryan Moore formed part of the PJA deputation that met the BHA earlier in the week, said: "Now is the time to move on and put it into practice.
"My opinion is that the structure of the rules is good but some of the penalties are a bit harsh.
"The rules are now more clear and we all know what we have to do.
"Our voice and opinion was heard and it's one step forward.
"I think the rules are now workable. Welfare of horses is paramount, whips don't hurt but we need rules to give guidance to people."
He added: "It is a big improvement from last week so we have to do our best to make it work."

I went to the Animal Aid site. There is a piece about Rewilding.

http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/NEWS/news_horse//2523//

This refers the reader to the BBC site.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/horse_racing/13781063.stm

There is the video of Rewilding at Ascot. They state the horse was dreadfully whipped with the hard central part of the whip and not the cushioned end. They also state the horse was subsequently driven to breaking its leg and had to be destroyed.
Didn't look like the whip was used differently to any other time.

They had a whip in the studio on ATR. I wish one of them had hit the other on the hand with the whip on TV. If as the Guardian journalist stated it did not hurt then it is documented on the TV. It is an end of this issue. If it doesn't hurt a bloke on TV then it certainly is not going to hurt a horse racing.

If it hurt like hell - then the whip restrictions have some validity. Maybe ban it all together except for safety reasons.

There is what I would consider a very sensible piece from Alastair Down (who is obviously pro-whip) in today's Post just advising the jockeys to now bite the bullet - because they are not going to get anything else - and just get on with it. They can obviously take this advice or take the advice of Luck and Co. in their attempts to goad them towards a strike.

What the jockeys are, quite rightly, still angry about is the severe penalties for breaking the rules. I can´t think of any other profession where a worker would have all payments withheld just for making a simple mistake.

A simple, but severe, suspension would be enough in my view.

Jockeys are still treated as serfs by racings authorities. You don´t see the BHA keen to bring in similar penalties for other industry workers like, starters, judges and flagmen...

Good Point Tip

How many Complaints should a Clerk be allowed in one year about Misleading Going reports, after all its in the Welfare of a horse to be running on a surface thats suitable for it
