This from an ex top jockey who was as light with the whip as R.Hills.

"If I'd given him / her a tap, we'd have won" - were pretty much the only words you'd ever hear from Swinburn after he'd been narrowly beaten on a 2yo. Why not hit 'em then Walter? Oh because it hurts and they remember, I see.

What a feckin' hypocrite.

I may be wrong, but I think the whip was made of leather when he first burst on to the scene. Instead of the candyfloss they use now...

That thing of his in  the last race ran like a drain.

It (Spin Cast) was a good example of how the new rules can change things. It needed encouragement all the way and the jockey was too weak to force it forward. These new rules may see an unintended effect of seeing more horses discarded as unraceable without the whip and an increase in the number of trucks going to Belgium and France next year.

Gerry Gallbladder the clue was in the part that said 2yo.
Report foxy top • October 21, 2011 11:07 AM BST
Gerry is very angry as he has been put right twice.
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 11:11 AM BST
Gerry has the nark because his mates at Pravda have backtracked
Report Gerry Gallbladder • October 21, 2011 11:11 AM BST
ima - are you suggesting that the whip should not be used on 2yo?
Report foxy top • October 21, 2011 11:16 AM BST
he is pointing out that it was Swinburn's stance about being 'kind' to 2y olds when he was riding !
Report Gerry Gallbladder • October 21, 2011 11:18 AM BST
Are you saying that 2yo should not be hit with the whip foxy top?
Report foxy top • October 21, 2011 11:19 AM BST
I think they should be hit where there's hair if I've backed them.
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 11:21 AM BST
I hardly ever back 2yo's anyway, must have had about 4 bets in 5 years on em
Report foxy top • October 21, 2011 11:26 AM BST
I only remember it thru painful memory of a cold Newmarket afternoon in the early 80s when Walter lost by a fast diminishing sh hd under hands & heels riding,

FFS I sayed, if he'd only hit it a couple of times that thing would off one innit to my entourage to which they replied, Walter never hits 2y olds in case them BHA goons change the rules Shocked
Report jimnast • October 21, 2011 11:52 AM BST
good morning zilzal you surprise me there not backing 2yo very often,i would have thought the autumn 2yo at the higher level would have suited you.
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 12:01 PM BST
Morning Jim, for future reference only those races are ok, i wouldnt back a 3yo handicapper until the Royal Meeting much either though.

Looking back through my records this year ive only backed West Leake Hare when it was 2nd at Goodwood and 4th at Donny, from a good sourceSad

7-10f Handicaps for older horse's is where i usually plough
Report jimnast • October 21, 2011 12:12 PM BST
i like the older handicapers also but again those at the higher level, and dont mind going up to 12 furlongs.
Report jimnast • October 21, 2011 12:14 PM BST
by the way i thought the ascot card needed a good quality 8 or 10 furlong handicap.
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 12:20 PM BST
Would hardly be going below class 4 meself, too many people with too many plots there, i dont mind some sprints at some gaffs but unless its extreme 13-16f is a mystery imo.

The last wasnt that bad a race, for lads esp, the trouble with near full fields at that gaff is you are always guessing where their going??

Id prefer a 16-20 runner race(ideally around Goodwood on Totepsort mile dayLaugh)
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 12:23 PM BST
Over 7f and a mile that isDevil
Report jimnast • October 21, 2011 12:29 PM BST
i see the reason for the last on saturday, but perhaps they could put it on king george day instead, agree its pretty pointless looking below class 4 level .i thought like most who went it was very good on saturday,i was against it at first been a newmarket member and for the tradition and the patern, but i have to admit rfc got it right,i hope the dewhurst and the middle park stay at newmarket, but the horris is is taken from newbury and upgraded to a gr 2 race ,any top class day needs a good 2yo race which would also make it a 7 race card 6 wasnt enough ,i would also start the day off with the 6f sprint and finish with the 2 miler.
Report zilzal1 • October 21, 2011 12:33 PM BST
Thats a good idea Jim, i could slink off a bit early thenLaugh

See the Jumps premier race tomorrow has the usual big fieldPlain
Report jimnast • October 21, 2011 12:40 PM BST
yes just 2 and 1/4 runners, next saturday we have ascot and the following week wincanton, ascot should be ok for runners with the abilty to water ,i fear for badger beer day at wincanton.i know the other races have reasonable field sizes at aintree but you have to question the way prize money is put up in the jump season,
