i know you wont but  stop spouting innacurate rubbish regarding the whip / they are air cushioned now in case you dont know . all your publicity just  gives further fuel to the fire to people who know nothing about the sport an just believe its cruel  regardless of knowing the facts . please shut up and retire you eejit. no ones saying excessive use of the air cushioned whip shouldnt be punished  but i suppose  you enjoy seeing a lazy horse that could win   now wont in light of  these ridiculous new rules. if it aint broke dont fix it . they should return to the old rules with immediate effect . this is ruining the sport . jockeys cannot do there job properlyu under these rules every horse is different  . it should be left to the horseman to decide . if a proffessional  as respected as richard hughes  cannot ride under these regulations  then  common sense must prevail he is a consummate proffessional  an for him to be banned twice for whip regulations just shows how far  wrong these regulations are   hughesy lives and breathes horses  . hope they sort this mess out . the  powers that be should not be altering the  sport just to suit an ignorant  misinformed   non racing pubplic.

'Racing' needs to put someone forward as a spokesperson to the media to counteract McCririck's inaccurate and one-sided views on the whip. I would suggest John Gosden.

FFS, Just ask him if he would rather watch animals being torn apart instead, as he seems to support that.

Why does Radio 5 Live, for instance, always go to that clown for his view on any controversial racing issue.  He is the worst ambassador possible for the sport and should be silenced forever!

Since the new rules primarily affect the jockeys you would think that Kevin Darley would be banging the drum for them - but don't hold your breath.

Quite how he can have a single concern about the public image of racing when he's prepared to do untold damage to the sport by taking money to appear on TV cage fighting in his underpants, is totally beyond me, imo...

And presumably he'll be accepting payment for his 'work' from C4 / ATR when appearing at NH racetracks where horses will DIE in the name of sport.

No horse is likely to die from being encouraged with an air-cushioned 'jockey's aid'.

No runners 2day but might hve a busy Sat, Shav goes 2 Newb for 50k hcap while some rain at Chep could see Numide out. Unfort John McCririck Has bitten the hand tht feeds him in DMail 2day, such a shame tht he is viewed as important by those outside the industry. No1 shld ever hve anythin 2 do with him, but more worrying is the comments tht appear below article, most non-racing people will agree with him as they dont Understand the facts tht the whip is a tool not a 'barbaric tradition'. A major worry is wht everlastin damage is this debate doin 2 racing

McCririck is a failed bookie who had his bacon saved by Barney, if the whip is so appalling he should leave the sport. So hypocritical, sticking his hooter into it....

There was a time when I defended this guy thinking that Chappers was bullying him.

How wrong I was. He is well capable of digging his own grave without assistance from anyone.

I used to think Mc Cririck was a sort of likeable clown that most people put up that no one took seriously. Now I think hes a moron who I would never defend again. If he knows a lot about racing which he claims he will have spoken to jockeys about the air cushioned whip and know that it does not harm horses. He just trying to get himself a more positive profile with those that know little of nothing about racing and sell his mis guided copy.

There's nothing worse, than seeing a frenzied jockey

whipping a horse.

Why some do it on the run in, with 50 yards to go,

when they're 20 lengths ahead, is totally beyond me.

Time they used their brains, me thinks.

They look like nasty horrible little men at times.

And it's got to stop!

Mc Cririck makes his living from our sport, while so many in our industry are struggling, now he's getting more media work for running it down

Mc Cririck certainly gets carried away far too much and also becomes far too emotive on issues...which leads to him being rounded on...

but i would say that rather than make  him a scapegoat for the dreadful PR that racing is enduring ...

the chief protaginists in all this the Jockeys/trainers and the BHA should look to themselves first.

You only have to look at the battering that horses get in the U.S and the drugging and the mis-treatment from the likes of Micky Quinn to know that the BS spouted about how much those within the industry love animals is a total myth. McCririck's stance flies against the self-serving crap we hear from the animal abusers.

To be fair to JMc he has always been consistent in calling for a total ban on the whip, which would still be a more desirable outcome than the present mish-mash shambles. When you impose limits on the number of strikes - especially with such heavy penalties -  you distract jockeys from doing their job properly and open the sport to widespread cheating by penalising the jockeys who are trying hardest to win while making allowances for the ones making no effort.
By:

When: 20 Oct 11 18:35
..yes tiptheodds......his consistency on the subject may be part of the reason why he is being rounded on...together with his delivery style of course!!!!

..nonetheless his consistency of position is in stark contrast to the trainers and especially the jockeys whose position seems to change.....if not on an hourly basis..then certainly daily!!!!!!

Hes not that bright. The man is in contact constantly with jockeys. If he was intelligent enough to ask them the right questions he may get a factual answer. Gosh or am I wrong do they really want to know the truth.? It does not sell copy

So its more cruel to give a horse a hit from an air cushioned whip than to see an animal ripped apart for sport!!

Bit like his free market philosophy when he was bailed out, changes like the wind to suit imo
