However I was not given my money back and after about 6 hours was finally told the bet had lost. What exactly happened to this race and why were people refunded and why wasnt I?

As I understand it the race was not suspended at the off. Happens not infrequently on US markets. Bets matched before the off will be honoured. Those matched after the off will be voided. If you think yours was matched after the off you should complain.

when the race started they didn't close it, so people were betting during and after the race. Once betfair realised they voided bets placed after the off, bets placed before the off time stand and are settled accordingly

Betfairs offtime and the offical offtime don't always match.
I once emailed the track for the official offtime, my bet was matched before this and still got voided. This was years ago though. |

think that happened last night as well fawwon, someone was complaining they were pre off and voided

It is a mess, all betfair have to do is show more detail on the time of bets being matched.
All we get from them is the minute the bet was matched which is nothing. Makes it impossible to know where you stand. |
