Would have said possibly/probably the 'other way around', actually.

Wait till you get the Heavy ground over the Jumps - if you think it is bad already.

The problem is onlooker. if your riding a horse to be out the frame and you only hit it 3 times and you finish 4th. you have a perfect excuse for not trying.

A brilliant ride by Tom Molly yesterday resulted in him receiving a 7 day ban for hitting the horse 10 times during the course of the race without which Rory Bo would have had no chance. Was the horse hurt - absolutely not.

I agree with bilbo , a great ride on Rory Boy  ...it is insanity, especially as AD's thread points out the whip does not even hurt, it is just used to keep the horse's mind on the job.

Britain has become an insane asylum run by the inmates. People can illegally occupy land for ten years and resist
eviction as at Dale Farm and, even when they are finally evicted, nothing will happen to them. They won't be fined,
imprisoned,or suspended from work (those that have jobs). In fact, they'll probably be given free land somewhere else.
Meanwhile a jockey who mis-counts the number of times he's used the whip by 1,is fined £53,000 and suspended for 5 days.
Couldn't help thinking when the BBC spoke to one of the protesters on the scaffolding by phone that it's people like her
that have caused the namby pamby's at the BHA to change the rules.

When a jockey says to an owner "it'll never win under the current whip guidelines" you know theyve fkd it up, for the punter ,for the racing enthusiast, and in all likelyhood for many of the poor horses who if things don't change face an uncertain future.

Sooner or later there must be a strike or boycott of sorts if things don't change ; whether by trainers/ owners ,jockeys, or most importantly punters.
We should all tell the BHA what we think using good reasoned and reasonable language. Don't wait for someone else to say it.
Call them on 020 7152 0000 (I already have).

"it'll never win under the current whip guidelines"

A whole lot of new handicap marks will have to issued to take into account the willingness factor of the horses

Well done kefir - I would have thought that a lot of current and prospective owners would have been seriously disillusioned by these rules. You cannot guarantee that one day your horse will suddenly decide to become one of the lazy ones and you know that will be the end of it's chances ever to win a race again. I thought they were trying to attract people to the sport and owners were especially important.

I would like to hear from the owner of Rory Boy to see what he/she thought of the ride.

What im seeing is that after 2 hurdles fences half the field have no chance of winning as you know the jockey cant get them into a position where they are going to have a chance. if he does use his whip then he has nothing left for a finish. owners are only going to want good travellimng horses and every race is going to finish in a sprint from 2 out. it doesnt make good viewing.

roggrain. Please keep politics out of this. I am totally against these new whip rules, but I consider myself of the left. If I find myself in company with the raving right I shall back out of the argument.

Salmon I'll keep politics out of this if the BHA will make non-politicalli motivated decisions

You can hardly think the merchant-banker Paul Roy is some sort of tree-hugging eco-warrior.

No,Salmon. But he and his associates are more concerned with public perception than reality.

The worrying thing is that the dopey midgets are looking as if they're  going to accept the whip restrictions so long as they're not hit as hard in the pocket. Head-in-hands man, please...

The fact that pro-whip is so often identified with right-wing hangers and floggers like you doesn't help your cause, YFSC.  Stop with the idiotic ranting about all you think is wrong with the country and focus on why you think it is right to revert to the former rules and regs.

Oh and btw, dopey if they let the BHA impose these flawed whip rules upon them, and jockeys do tend to be on the small side.

HTH.

ss, no, because I'm not interested in rugby and couldn't care less what their rules are.

Then again, I could take an interest and complain to their ruling body that all that tackling doesn't look very nice - and perhaps they should consider banning tackles from the sport.
