Does it have to be a 12 hour shift? Surely it would be the same principle even if they'd only worked 5 minutes. Then again, that wouldn't sound quite so dramatic would it....

I don't know how this will be resolved ever.
If the trainer says "lose on this and you will never ride for me again" , the jockey is in a real bad spot and will have to build a whole new partnership with another yard. Or he could just machete the horse non stop to win.
