I’ve mentioned Silvestre De Sousa before in respect of why he doesn't get better mounts that is apart from those out of the Mark Johnston stable.  Today he has two reasonable opportunities care of MJ followed by three out with the washing jobs.  That said the guy has boosted my balance with a few double figure winners this season.  Check the stats on the Jockeys championship table: Paul Hanagan 157 winners from 1068 mounts, Silvestre De Sousa 150 winners from 952.  Today apart from Mark Johnston mounts SDS has got one with a stable that’s had just two winners this year and two others priced up at 25/1 and 33/1.  No wonder Paul Hanagan is 1/5 to win the championship even though he’s got a lesser strike rate than SDS and incidently the same stat applies to stake money won.
Is it racism, ignorance or arrogance?

Maybe the main reason is that Hanagan has been around longer and has more established links.
Report Roger De Bris • October 18, 2011 10:44 AM BST
i'd say the average price of SDS's is probably higher as well.

In my view he is none of the above

those stats indicate to me that with the same amount of rides he would probably be winning the championship this year ....

the horses would be the same but the prices would be shorter ...

10O PER CENT RACISM.otherwise he would miles clear of the rest vecause he is the best jockey since lester piggott.never have we seen such a talent as SDS and the only reason he isnt leading the way is the race card.Hope this has put an end to a pathetic question.

What is this "same stat" that applies to stake money won?

You're comparing his mounts with Hanagan's. What do you expect? - Hanagan is champion jockey? You're suggesti ng that if any jockey doesn't get as good chances as the champion jockey, then it's down to racism? or arrogance?

The main reason there is such a large discrepancy between their prices for the championship is that SdS has a 4-day suspension coming up, and there aren't many days left - and it is hard to close the gap at this stage of the season.

It might also be more meaningful if you posted on a day when there was racing in the north, as SdS is a northern-based jockey. You can't expect him to have a great book of mounts when the only racing is at Yarmouth and Lingfield.

Has to be number of winners ridden; otherwise where do you draw the line? Is Mr. R.J.Williams the real champion jockey with 23% winners from 13 rides?

Of course its racism isin`t everything.
Racism is a whingers word designed to suppress free speech. Its also an excuse for a myriad of crimes as in "he made a racist slur so i had to kill him" also used in sport along similar lines "he made a racist slur so i had to hit him"
Proof of my free speech argument can be decided by how long this post lasts.

Is it racism, ignorance or arrogance? This was a facile question design to enliven response, which it did. No one has posted a reply telling me anything I didn't already know, though a few have posted crap.
The point of my posting was to glorify the talent of Silvestre De Sousa and I predict he will be champion jockey in the very near future. Neither an original nor particularly clever prediction.
As for your comment 'Wild Man' I couldn't agree more! The terms 'Racism and Racist' have been the bleating cry of woolly liberals since the mid sixties, and caused this country to be conquered without a single shot being fired.
Report Ramruma • October 24, 2011 9:43 AM BST
de Sousa is probably not helped by Mark Johnston rotating rides through several jockeys, although of course, in another sense he is helped tremendously by Johnston doing that.

Though if we are going by strike rate ...

won lost strike rate
Jun Frankie Dettori 4 38 9.5%
Jul Frankie Dettori 13 41 24.1%
Aug Frankie Dettori 14 34 29.2%
Sep Frankie Dettori 19 55 25.7%
Oct Frankie Dettori 10 41 19.6%

I'm guessing that this is just a wind up thread.
who in racing gives a sht about the colour or creed of a jockey.

owners and trainers just want the jockey that can win on their horse, no matter whether he's white or green with pink spots.
most folk in racing would be happy to have SDS ride for them, but he isn't often available any more with his MJ commitments.

In an interview a week or 2 back, Dave Evans said he had told Fallon's agent that Fallon could ride any of his horses if he wanted to. So it was surprising to see SDS win on Forest Edge on Saturday evening with Fallon watching on from the weighing room.

Dave must have said the same to SDS' agent! Mischief

penzance: Mostly farmers donkeys - tambhoy5: Why should that matter? - Outpost: Hey your notion works if green with pink spots happens to be the owners colours.

Back on a more interesting note, both SDS and PH have eight mounts each at Catterick today. They could dominate the meeting between them. From where I'm sitting it looks like two maybe three each.

The only reason SDS isn't in front of Hanagan is the amount of harsh bans the Stewards have handed him this season, compared to the leniancy that Hanagan has been allowed. Fact.

Good to know someone's paying attention, well said Willow.
Should be a couple of fair ding dongs between the two of them today - How many times can you whip another jockey in the final furlong, maybe that's a question for Fallon who incidently makes sense in agreeing with sir Mark Prescott that if rules are broken the horse should be disqualified.
It's a nonsense, how long before weighing room deals are done whereby owners tell jockey's not to worry about fee's and percentages because "We'll look after you son"
Your horse gets beaten in a close finnish and you do your dough because the other jocky whips the daylights out of his horse knowing he's going to be looked after during his sabatical!
Report Willow1966 • October 25, 2011 8:36 AM BST
I agree with you wantono - the only way to stop this happening would be to throw the horse out as suggested by Sir Mark and Kieren.

that would be the perfect cheat's charter.
connections lay the horse then tell the jockey to whip the hell out of it so that it wins and gets disqualified.

"of course we were trying to win. didn't you see how hard the jockey was trying"

Outpost's lay, whip, disqualify route to riches suffers only from the flaw it would be immediately detected.

And three years later the BHA would get around to warning off all concerned.

THANK YOU for posting this. This is a brilliant summary of the use of the word racism.

Take the latest John Terry case. Anton Ferdinand hasnt complained, yet somehow some DO-GOODERS have called the filth!! WTF?! Since when does having a right to free speech become an unlawful offence?!

Answer me this....
In light of all recent events, including the whip debate, Will we soon be in a world where we can't say or do anything in fear of the MINORITY opinion being more valid than the MAJORITY?

How convoluted can it get, wouldn't getting one beat be a lot simpler and less controversial just by sticking to the age old system of not trying?

I see SDS has started the ball rolling.
