There is certainly a shambles but 90% of the blame should be placed on the jockeys who seem incapable of controlling their arm movements when they have a whip in their hands. I have watched several of them closely and even when 4 lengths clear in the final 20 yards, many still hit their horses just as hard as ever. I am not anti-whip, just anti-hypocrisy.

Lucan, most of your threads have been quite sensible, but now you are rambling and trying to bring politics to the horseracing forum, which is a no go.Also you are so far out of touch on this subject, and in danger of becoming a joke with your post of 08.20.
Obviously you have strong feelings on this subject,as this is not the first time you have slipped it into one of your threads, but take some advice and keep your incorrect thoughts to yourself. Palestine, warheads,UN resolutions,Paul Roy!!!!!!!! Losing it I would say,and at 08.20 in the morning! This IS a horseracing forum, politics is down the road. |

Yes unbiased, on reflection, I have overstepped the mark in trying to connect that arrogant, obnoxious individual with my perception that certain highly-influential 'sections of society' seem to hold a disproportionate level of power throughout the World, whether that be in finance, politics or even the BHA.
However, I think I should keep those suspicions to myself for fear of being ridiculed or accused of becoming over-political, with a small 'p' I might add. The shame is that not everyone agrees that everything that we do or say in life has some political ramification. We are all participating in a political game in some shape or form. It's inescapable that if you scratch my back then you'll naturally expect some back-scratching in return. It's the nature of being human. Sadly, at the BHA, there seems to be an excess of back-scratching in the Boardroom at present, with very little to show for it. |

Lizards tend to have long tongues...I suspect Roy has a short one....along with his foresight.[;)]
Willo asked him over the weekend 'how many wanted a whip ban' to which Roy allegedly replied '60%, but that decreased to 20% after being educated as to what the whip represented and how regulated' Where then is the foundation to the political type rhetoric that 'everyone agreed something needed doing about the whip'? To me it just feels like lies. Jenny Pitman came up with the stat that 100,000 horses ran last year and only 20 came back with marks. (thats 0.02%) hardly evidence of an overtly abused rule imo. Some t urd from the animal rights bunch was asked on news24 'what evidence do you have that horses are hurt by the whip' to which he replied 'well we dont have any...' It seems to me that people needed educating as to what the 'whip' is nowadays and to how its different to the birching and knuckle wrapping from schools of old. Besides the asking of 'what do you think of the whip?' is a negatively loaded question and biased. Its like having a study of 'would you say you like nice things?' |
