Following this evening's announcement I have written to the Whip Review Panel as follows:
"As a leading shareholder in Betfair, a company dedicated to looking after the betting interests of punters, I feel that I not only speak on behalf of those same punters but I also share their hopes and aspirations.
I have consulted with my many friends on the Betfair forums (who, incidentally, think I'm doing a great job at the BHA) and I can safely say that the vast majority of them have given me their unanimous support on the new whip rules. In fact I would go so far as to say that they believe that I should receive either a knighthood or a peerage for my sterling work on behalf of horse racing.
I have to admit, I tend to agree with them.
The small number of loonies, such as Lucky Lucan, who wish to see me resign are just losers who lack my charisma and good fortune in life, and dare I say good looks also.
I will still be at the BHA this time next year continuing the good work and success only I could have brought to racing."
