The watering in Plumpton doesn't looked as if its worked out too well as the ground is really quick (thus the tiny fields). The bumper has only 3 and surely the ex Irish Point To Point winner Finnegan Paddy with Richard Johnson booked looks to have this at his mercy. If he handles the quick ground he'll be very hard to beat. He's by Moscow Society, the concern is arguably his best run in defeat came on heavy ground in Nenagh. He was 2nd to a serious horse  HANDY ANDY who subsequently joined Colin Tizzard and beat a smart Pipe horse in a Newbury Novice hurdle before pulling up in an Aintree Grade 1.His Newbury win earned a 130 Racing Post Rating. A 100 rating would win this bumper. FINNEGAN PADDY did win on better ground after that when coasting home in Monksgrange by 7Lengths.
This looks dire, for me the 2nd favourite is decidely moderate and regressed in Towcester, maybe the longer trip will suit, but I  think its not much good. That leaves the cheap purchase  MAD GEORGE who might be a bigger danger than the 2nd fav, although costing just 2K doesn't set the pulse racing.

I thought FINNEGAN PADDY was a 1/4 chance, yet he's been available at 1/2 and is 1.47 on here just now in the Shadow Boxing Market....His Nenagh run wins this in a hack ! THe yard is flying and has a great strike rate in bumpers first time especially with ex Irish pointers !  He's 4 from 22 in bumpers this new National Hunt season a 22% strike rate ! I've definitely seen worse 1/2 chances and think he's a moral..Of course the market always vital with this yard. If you see this go 1.68 ,there would be concern. So unless MAD GEORGE is very smart looks a bet for those who like to lump on the skinny un's ! [;)]

The one thing dickie needed was a gallop, why not force a gallop. It astounds me that jockeys sit and see how it unfolds.

Just one flaw in your analysis ...]

You overlooked MAD GEORGE'S pedigree.

A Point-to-Point winner (FINNEGAN'S) against this pedigree ...

MAD GEORGE.

half-brother to a winner in Japan; dam unraced half-sister to top-class 1m4f-1m6f performer (Leger winner) Scorpion and smart middle-distance performers Memories (US Grade 2), Garuda and Danish Rhapsody

The fav was being niggled with a circuit to run. Only got close as the winner tired on the run in. Winner will come on bundles for that run.

You have to remember that horses coming from The P2P scene....winning/running over 3m on heavy ground....
invariable find bumpers around 2m too quick for them[;)]

Johnson knew all that before hand, while I accept he never travelled like a 2/9 chance. He looked to have it sewn up when going on before turn in ! He'd just gone on,the eventual winner was off the bridle. If he'd gone on then instead of waiting he mite have won. Stamina is the horses forte, but it turned into a sprint off the turn in. He got a shock when he saw MAD GEORGE sprint fast and wide and it was too late to turn it into a test of stamina.

Poor Ride on a horse who clearly wants 3miles but whilst talking through my pocket I think Johnson was poor on a horse who probably isn't great ! The winner has a fair pedigree and would have more Toe than the Irish point winner.
Cest La Vie...No good punting 1/2 +beating the market  if you get gelded.Bad race .Confused

Koikeeper it was a 2mile 2 bumper on Stiffish track..the quick ground was a worry. But thought Johnson would have ensured Stamina TEST !!! Moderate Ride

Not the first time a point to point winner has been too slow to win a bumper.

However i take your point that the jockey should of made sure it was a stamina test! Wrong choice of track as well even though it was 2mile 2f as plumpton is too sharp.

So Vaughan never chooses the wrong track so he can get a price next time.  You're having a laugh!

Mr Vaughan should have taken the beast to Blackpool Beach instead of Plumpton racecourse imo.

"Koikeeper it was a 2mile 2 bumper on Stiffish track"

Well, that's the first time I've heard one of the sharpest tracks in the country called stiff!
