After going on national TV and telling all and sundry what a bunch of horse beaters we are, will he this winter be going on national TV to tell them what a bunch of horse murderers we are as the sight of green screens and tarpaulins becomes a more familiar sight through the jump season?

Or will be attending jumps meetings to work for C4 and ATR and picking up his wages from an industry which has helped make him a wealthy man? The same industry he put the boot into this week with such a one-sided argument against the whip.

Surely if he is so offended by an air-cushioned whip, no way is he going to stand for some horses breaking their necks and legs in the name of sport.

Or will he continue to pick up his pay packet and just say how dreadful it looks?

And another thing, apparently 60% of those questioned by the BHA said they were offended by the whip - but this was reduced to 20% when they were informed about the how the whip has been modified.

So along the same lines, if and when the BHA go out and ask people (I'm presuming people who have not got a lot of interest in our great sport) if they think horses risking their lives jumping obstacles is cruel, and what their perception is of green screens / tarpaulins hiding dead animals, and 95 - 99% of those asked are abhorred by the thought, can we expect a ban on jump racing?

Then after we have banned jump racing, we can then go back and ask the same people what they think of racing 2YOs before they have fully matured, and when 95% say they think it's cruel...

Just keep going, Mr Roy, once you question one aspect of the sport, you have to question the whole lot of it, imo.

Strange how fortunes can change. From being a fairly popular breath of fresh air in race broadcasting McCririck has become a reviled, hated and slob of a gas bag who should have been confined to the television dustbin around the same time as Cilla Black, Jimmy Tarbuck, Esther Rantzen and all of that ilk.

A faded star who is just a sad caricature of all that is wrong with horse racing in the media.

He'll go whichever way best suits J. McCririck - it's all only about him ultimately, imo...

They would need a very large green tarpaulin for McCririck.

George B -----very good point, start looking for trouble, and your sure to keep finding it, in most activities.   Personally, I can't have it that horse racing is even a "sport" at all-----in my humble view it's just a huge "industry", which has grown ever bigger to feed people's gambling addictions (mine included)-----and without any betting, who on Earth would ever go to, or watch a mid-week, or even many week-end race meetings ?---it would be the most boring spectator event ever.
As for the thousands of horses commercially bred for racing, they are largely little more than a commodity that's required to fulfil the quest to aquire the cash of  punters, and ofcourse star-struck owners.---  Some horses aquire adulation and a career in the breeding "machine", some get re-homed by animal lovers, most go to the auctions , and "no further questions asked" (I hold my hands up several times on that count).
I wish everyone well who earns a living from being employed within it, and everyone who enjoys betting on it, but just can't have this "sporting" tag attached--------it's about one thing for 99.5% of everyone involved---------££££££££££££--------might be wrong though !

richgit, McCririck brings bad publicity upon the sport because of air-cushioned whips. Yet the man will accept payment for working at jump meetings where horses will be killed.

Horses being killed actually is a welfare issue - not the air-cushioned whip. Who's the HYPOCRITE?

He postures to be worried about the public image of racing, yet he's prepared to take money to appear on terrestrial TV cage fighting in his underpants.

That's hypocrisy, imo...

Millhouse---LOL---------George---I suggested on this forum what the ideal solution to the whip issue was in my humble view--ie. if jocks cant steer or encourage without it,( fair enough ), then let them use it as often as they feel fit (subject to critical review and advice),------ but shorten its length by about a foot-----then jocks could only tap , not thrash from shoulder height like flailing banshees !--------I think the jocks, present and past (now tv presenters) who use phrases like------------ " getting stuck into 'em"----"get a couple of good uns into 'em"---"really giving it what for"-------do immesurable harm to the whole thing, and should engage their brains before showing their macho tendencies--------God only knows what used to go on !!
