Show me a sprinting "super-star" horse, and I'll show you one rated 95 that runs the whole race about 1 second slower
Try to find a 95 rated handicapper 1 second slower than Black Caviar |

Andrew -----------check out which type of horses hold the 5 furlong course records at most Uk courses----I don't know the answer but I bet they are not recognised that much--------might be wrong, often am ! [;)]

Course records are far more greatly influenced by the going wind direction, and early pace than by the quality of the race.

I agree with you richgit
They all look bloody fast when there racing to the line at pontefract on a monday or on champions day at ascot |
|
By:
Richgit how would you ascertain "great/the best in any competative sphere?
|

By:
There is an old saying that "They all look fast running past trees."
The fact remains that the "Super horses", the Frankels, Brigadiers, Sea the stars, Nijinskys etc are beating the cream of their peers again and again. Boring spectacle, does Michael Shumakers achievements become any less for just driving around and around in a car as no one would have a clue who is inside the helmet! |

Well guys , I don't have all the answers, but it just occurs to me that if you ran an entire card on the same day, at let's say Doncaster, then the difference in times between the winner of the nursery, or even claiming race, or the listed race might only be around a second or so over more than 1000 yards-----------imperceptible to a viewer , and viewing is all we have to form our appreciation of the performance------------don't want to start a ruckus , but from owning horses for years, and watching them work at Newmarket, I can tell you that only a very knowledgeable eye could tell one from the other by their style of galloping etc--------it was always a complete bladdy mystery to me, that's why I packed it all in about ten years ago---------just spend my time obeying the wife now !

not a bad effort at fishing but ...
Show me a sprinting "super-star" horse, and I'll show you one rated 95 that runs the whole race about 1 second slower-------impossible to detect with the human eye 1 second with horses at full gallop equates to more than 5 lengths, you'd have to be cross-eyed not to detect that imo ![]() |

its only apparent when horses take a drop in class that it becomes clear to the eye the vast gulf betwween a top horse and a lesser horse.
prior to dancing brave's arc,he ran in the select stakes against decent gp 2 and 3 horses. he absolutely hammered them by ten lengths barely off the bridle. the pleasure for me is watching the best against the best. anyone who studys top class racing knows just how good imm verse and excellebration are and frankel destroyed them. |
|
By:
But if you saw two races with the best against the best and the so called worst against the worst and you did not know what horses you were watching maybe because it was in singapore or somewhere ?
Could you hand on heart say you could really tell the difference ? |
|
By:
no i probably couldn't,but that's my point.
it only becomes apparent when inferior horses meet their betters, hence usually winning distances/bridle wins are increased. when horses of similar class race each other, generally its difficult to know wether its a selling race or gp1 without knowledge of the runners. frankel has been beating his class by wide margins, and that is why he's so great. |
