Presumably you didn't see Paul Roy's shambolic performance cowering in front of Luck. They will just cave in.
I agree with your sentiments though. |

do one , the most pampered sportsmen on the planet you,re having a laugh

Football doesnt rely on gambling to exist. racing does. therefore anything that puts that at jeopardy is not good for the sport. these new whip rules are making racing in britain look like something from faulty towers. horses looking like none triers in every race. not great to look at and not great for betting purposes.

Ok - so FIFA bring in a law in the last few weeks of the season saying that players can catch the ball in the pen area and chuck it in the net. Should the players just accept it and carry on or realise that the law is unworkable and needs refining/abolishing? Of course that wouldn't happen as even FIFA aren't as feudal as the BHA and some (not many!) understand the game - unlike the BHA.

you ve got to remeber - jockeys are the most pampered sportsmen on the planet, they have planes and cars to get them about - they even have people to dress them, and through no strwength/skill of their own ,they steer a horse in the right direction and get 100k.
And that parsa shows that you have a complete lack of understanding of racing! It is the case for maybe 10 jocks in the UK with most of the rest scrimping around for not much. |
|
By:
Just because a rule has been introduced doesn't automatically mean it is good for the sport.
|
|
By:
but everyone agrees that the rule in principle is good, makes racing look less bad.
the jockeys are crying cos the bans are heavy, well we all know how to get round that - dont do it.as for the counting - i ve never heard so many whinges ,problems because they cant count and dont know where the furlong pole is,thats the whole idea ,jockeys who glance up at the furlong pole and can count to 5 as well as ride a finnish will prosper and those that fight tooth and nail because there jobs a little bit more difficult will struggle, like teams that play off side ,or players who dont get back 10 yards get booked.its chess, the rules are what makes it a sport, adapting to those rules and working with them shows greater sporting prowess, skill etc. |

Are there such draconian whip rules anywhere else in the world ?
|
|
By:
Comingupthehill. So you think jockeys "are the most pampered sportsmen on the planet that through no strength/skill of their own steer a horse in the right direction and get 100k".
You are obviously trying to wind everyone up with your comments or are a complete and utter ignoramous. |

You KNOW that Animal Aid wont stop until at the very least NH racing(and all racing if they hit the jackpot) is banned.
The Whip issue is a smokescreen, maybe 30 years ago they had a point, not any more |

Makes racing look less bad to who exactly? Soumillion's last furlong drive to me yesterday did not look in any way bad.

but everyone agrees that the rule in principle is good, makes racing look less bad. Not everyone, I don't. I do not want to see jockeys 2 or 3 furlongs out scared to give their mounts a couple of smacks. Horses don't come pre-programmed to race. Watch SDS on Colour Vision yesterday, that horse needed a couple of smacks 2f out to get him rolling, but you could see it was as if SDS' hands were tied, clearly scared to get after the horse too soon. I have no problem with a horse being encouraged with an air-cushioned whip - especially when it has been proven there is no welfare issue. I will say this again to the anti-whip brigade, if using an air-cushioned whip bothers you, then you must absolutely abhorred that some horses this winter are going to lose their lives jumping obstacles. So a ban on jump racing too? |

PTP
as I understand it jocks are allowed to administer as many strokes as necessary in the last 100m initially stringent rules were changed after a similar outctry so presumably somillion would have not transgressed the rules in australia |
|
By:
zilzal.. you've touched on the kernal of the issue here. The BHA has changed the rules in an attempt to placate the animal rights brigade and to appease so called public perception.
My question to them is: If the public perception is that racing horses is cruel, would the BHA ban it!!? |
|
By:
It wont matter a jot about the whip if the bbc get the wrong camera angle again next April and the general public get another glimpse of dead horses and the media have another frenzy

I cant believe that people actually think we need these rules. its been proven it doesnt hurt the horses. the prob is that the under 30s in this world have been brought up as nancies that act and think like women, with no idea how to really think for themselves, they all assume that whatever the powers that be come up with, should be the way to go, and they listen too much to the drivel spouted by the pc brigade and the minorities. people should learn to toughen up and get a better understanding of the world. god knows what this world is going to become with these nancy boys in charge. what the hell is going on. was in the changing rooms yesterday and saw a 10 year old boy using 2 types of face creams, when I asked what they were he informed me that one was a facial scrub and the other a moisturiser. you couldnt make it up. people should stop worrying about what other people are doing and start looking after themselves. the whip rule didnt need changing, you just think it did because someone told you it did. ask anyone over 30 and most will say the rule didnt need changing. I have spoken to dozens of people and not one has agreed with these rules. yet it seems the nancies are getting their way again.

1)its the only sport were women can compete with men (so it cant be that hard can it) 2)they have valets who dress them there only task is not to eat to much - which we get a load of self pity from them about how hard it is. they make one rule change - and they go on strike, |
|
By:
comingupthehill Now I know you're winding everyone up. No-one could be ignorant enough to make statements like that.

but everyone agrees that the rule in principle is good, makes racing look less bad So you think racing is a bad thing and you are ashamed / embarrassed by it? |
|
By:
comingupthehill is an animal rights lobbyist.
Next target will be banning the whip completely. Then the GN Then all jumps racing Then flat racing. They will accomplish the latter in about 20 years if Roy stays in his job. |

I like robinlace1's post of 11:15
been thinking along similar lines myself lately what do these people do for enjoyment - does anyone know? |
|
By:
people should stop worrying about what other people are doing and start looking after themselves
This from a grown man who felt the need to question the actions of a 10 year old. Maybe if animals could look after themselves they'd eat you. |

Horses are vegetarians Feck. No need to worry.

".... was in the changing rooms yesterday and saw a 10 year old boy using 2 types of face creams, when I asked what they were he informed me that one was a facial scrub and the other a moisturiser. you couldnt make it up...." I suspect you have though robin. |

gerry I suspect your in the category I am talking about. no need to make things up when the world is as insane as it is. people like you that make rash judgments about people and their posts need removing from society to do us all a favour.
|

By:
i bet you 2 dont tell your mates you had a row on the internet about moisturising cream and 10 yr old boys.
|
|
By:
It does look like the jocks will never
again, get away with hitting a horse, as many times as they like. Which will make them look a little more professional, especially during a finnish. A far more watchable sport becons, me thinks. Good stuff. |

By:
if people think horse racing is about gambling then they have a sad life
|
|
By:
That's a good point makeelah.
I remember watching Zafonic race. He usualy won, without getting so much of a tap of the whip. Great horse, never whipped! |

"World insane" and "people need removing from society to do us all a favour" - nothing rash or judgmental here robin! Let me guess, you're a Daily Mail reader? 1.01 I'm right. |

Too much being said by those that have no idea whatsorver.Like the originator of this thread, and the public in general.
Idiotic comparisons of hitting a human to a horse.Utter tosh. Most have never seen, and probably never will,a cushion whip, yet are voicing their stupid opinions,as if they have to be correct. You also can't compare jockeys with other sportsmen, different altogether, many variables. The biggest problem is that we have terrible leadership, conflict in all directions over many issues. Racing can only progress and go forward when there is unity, and all parties sing together, there is no room for disharmony. It is wrong for those that are not"in the know" ,and don't see the whole picture,to try to introduce change, like the press. It is also painfully only too obvious that many have no idea as to the makeup of a thoroughbred racehorse. |
|
By:
I seem to remember when these cushion whips came out the jockeys were soaking and freezing them to give them more weight. Why give them the benefit of the doubt? Take it off them altogether.
