Most races at Ascot are preceded by a race at Catterick 5 minutes before. If you're going to have a "showpiece" event why put on 4 other meetings such that you can only allow 5 minutes between flat races. There's also a 30 minute wait between each block of two races for flat punters.

And 2 apprentice only races today - one being a 29 runner affair at Ascot - madness.
