Is it purely a numbers thing and the UK has more members and so usually more transactions to settle? I've sometimes found it also takes longer for my own bets to settle on Saturdays than in the week so maybe that's also due to an increase in the number of transactions needing to be processed.

rubbish, melbourne cup carnival holds a huge turn over, as does Hong Kong meetings, the chinese bet on anything. its all done with computers. computers dont run slower because more money is invested on a race. soon as correct weight is given, its just a press of the button.

They settle first past the post and reverse if there is a protest upheld or something. If it looks like there may be a protest they wont settle til weight.

You have to wait for the `weigh in ` etc etc...you generally have to weight 4 /5 mins after the result for your account to be credited. Within 2 mins with the Aus racing, perhaps within a min.

AAh ok, originally it was like that when Betfair first started aus racing but they brought it in a few years back now.
They are usually pretty good, always a bit of a worry if you are on the winner and they take a while to settle it.

Gee that sounds a bit much. I guess in Aus on a day like today there's a race every 3 or 4 minutes, i guess they think if they pay us out faster we are more likely to bet on the next race

I think you will find the online bookies are the ones settling quick because there is no way to withdraw your money if they reverse the decision.
The TAB would not settle that fast as cash customers could not be traced.
