STRIKE action by the jockeys planned for Monday over the new whip rules has been shelves after the BHA agreed to meet the PJA to discuss concerns raised by the jockeys' group.

The names of jockeys booked to ride at the Flat meeting at Windsor and Pontefract were removed on Friday morning following the decision of Richard Hughes to relinquish his licence after being hit with two bans since the beefed-up penalty structure was introduced at the start of the week.

The PJA made a written submission to the BHA on Friday asking for a review of the penalties and seeking clarification of the rules and racing's governing body agreed to a meeting on Monday.

However, the BHA stated that the new rules would not be suspended in the interim.

Jockey Sophie Doyle, who was suspended to 11 days on Friday for hitting her mount nine times in a race, seven times in the final furlong, confirmed the jockeys' decision to postpone action.

"For those that haven't been informed yet, we have postponed protest as BHA have agreed for a meeting Monday," she wrote on Twitter.

Doyle's words came soon after the PJA said that jockeys looking to strike on Monday were recommended to take rides as planned.

PJA chief executive Kevin Darley said: "We are pleased that the BHA board will meet the representatives of jockeys so that together we can resolve the current issues concerning the whip rules.  It is imperative for the sport that these matters are settled as soon as possible.

"What jockeys do have concerns about are the new penalties for what they perceive to be relatively minor infringements of the rules. The PJA believes very strongly that this aspect needs to be reconsidered."
