Nobody who does not want to see horses being hit with a whip would have written that - so he obviously writes one thing one day and something else another. Not very consistent is he - methinks he just wanted to jump on the media bandwagon after being rebuffed by the BHA.

@claimsfive Excellent article. All along BHA should have been focused on demonstrating that the whip is air-cushioned and doesn't hurt |

@ @claimsfive really good read that |

Analogs if it does not hurt why restrict its use?

Not really fair to accuse me of bandwagon-jumping. More than two weeks ago, on the day after the new rules were published, I wrote that: i) the timing would undermine Champions Day ii) using a strict numerical limit for whip-strokes was a mistake You can read it here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/sep/27/whip-rules-test-champions-day-ascot |

SkySportsNews reporting PAUL NICHOLS has tweeted ... something like ....
'What a mess - revert to the old rules - until this mess is sorted out'. ------------------------------ No doubt you will find in for us, Anaglogs. |

The reason why the restricted is because of Aintree. The hottest day of the year and tho some noticed the stricken horses with the tarpaulin over them the once of year punters got really upset with the buckets of water been flung over the finishers, so they thought the whip must have done that...Not that they ran and jumped for 4 and a half mile in 100 degrees. So to ensure those people wont get upset again(they think the once a year punters are tuning in to watch a boring mile race on the flat) they decided 'We better not let them think we have done nothing (Like making Beechers brook from one of the biggest fences at aintree to no more then a skirting board with no drop the other side... So instead of doing the sensible thing like moving the National to the evening they have decided the jockeys have to pay the piper for all the studying and paper work it took the BHA geniuses to get to the excellent whip bans we have now.....Sorry for been so facetious but it has become farcical. I hope Paul Roy never gets involved in cricket..Next weeks test match will be played with a ping-pong in case the cricket ball hurts the bat.

Paul Nicholls twitter Oh my god what a mess. Old whip rules should be re instated with immediate effect untill a sensible compromise can be reached |
