Does smell a bit , surely its better to strike when the press and public are going to notice it. God this sport is pathetic, seems to be dieing a slow death.

Jockeys already committed to owners and trainers for Saturday and Sunday. Monday was the first logical day to call for a strike.

For you bookies: if you have a pitch at Taunton can you bet at Chepstow and have the Chepstow bookmakers to stand down or is it just tough s***?

Chepstow to take on abandoned Taunton card

By Stuart Riley racingpost.com44

FIRM ground due to a lack of rain, both in recent weeks and in future forecasts, has resulted in Taunton abandoning early its fixture scheduled for October 25.

The British Horseracing Authority has sanctioned the transfer of Taunton's fixture to Chepstow on the same day. The race programme will remain largely unchanged with only minor alterations to race distances where needed.

Bob Young, Chief Executive at Taunton, said: "It is with great reluctance that we have made this decision, but, with the exception of 5.5mm on October 6, there has been no measurable rainfall on the course since September 26th. For us to be able to race on October 25th we need at least 100mm of additional rainfall and there doesn't seem to be any forecast in the near future.

"We had a choice of either sitting on our hands and losing the fixture altogether or accepting that it was very unlikely to rain sufficiently and at least save the fixture and enable it to be run elsewhere. Northern Racing, who own Chepstow Racecourse, has kindly agreed to grant free admission to all Taunton Annual Members."

Jim Allen, Head of Racing Development at Northern Racing said: "We are pleased to be able to accommodate this fixture at Chepstow and I can confirm that all races will meet tariff. The meeting will follow shortly after Silver Trophy Day but the turf is in fantastic condition. There is not much rain forecast so we expect to be watering".

They will be lucky if any bookmaker attends a transferred meeting at Chepstow

So the Chepstow bookmakers can stand. Which will be probably just the big 3 manipulating the s.p.

The three racecourses due to stage fixtures on Monday have not been told of any strike planned by jockeys in protest at new whip regulations which came into effect this week.

Windsor, Pontefract and Plumpton are all scheduled to race, yet speculation mounts about possibility of industrial action.

Richard Hughes, one of the senior figures in the weighing room, relinquished his licence after picking up his second ban in four days since the new instructions regarding the whip were introduced on Monday.

However, despite no jockeys appearing against the name of any horse at Windsor on the official British Horseracing Authority administration site, the racecourse were unwilling to confirm or deny if they had been advised of any action.

A spokesman said: "We're not getting involved and have no comment to make."

Pontefract and Plumpton said they had not been contacted.

A spokeswoman for Pontefract said: "We've seen what has been going on regarding the whip but nobody has contacted us to say there is a strike."

Plumpton's spokesman said: "We've heard the rumours but have not had any contact with anybody.

how ironic that it is a charity that has the welfare of retired racehorses at its heart, that is going to suffer

Made this point earlier, funny how they choose to pick a crappy Monday and not a big race day or a Saturday.

They are clearly after all they can get, so if I was in charge, just to wind them up, I'd now ban the whip completely so they don't have to learn to count 1,2,3,4,5.

Should the jockeys be shown the whip, a couple of cracks down the shoulder and I bet theyed soon toe the line.

The British Horseracing Authority yesterday confirmed that it was listening to jockeys’ concerns about the new whip Rules and that it had asked for and would consider any formal submission the Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) chose to make on this subject.

We have this afternoon received a short submission from the PJA. The BHA has today invited the PJA to attend a planned Board meeting of the Authority on Monday so that they can elaborate further on the submission they have made before further detailed consideration by the BHA’s Review Group. The PJA has accepted this invitation.

This dialogue will build on constructive talks we held with the PJA on Tuesday. Throughout the process of amending the rules on use of the whip and associated penalties the BHA has worked closely with representatives of the PJA and we are encouraged that they recognise our commitment to thorough consultation.

We will not be suspending the current Rules pending these discussions, but we do commit to resolving this matter as quickly as possible while ensuring that due process is followed.

In light of the positive dialogue taking place between the BHA and the PJA we urge everyone involved in racing to engage with this process and to work with us to take the sport forward with no disruption to the racing programme.
