How much longer do the racing public have to listen to utter nonsense that comes out this man.The novelty of the loud mouth and fancy dress costumes wore off a long long time ago.He brings absolutely NOTHING to horse racing as Barney Curley told him live on ATR he is a 'take out merchant' who courts attention to justify his money. He is the past not the future like the new crop of presenters coming through on ATR and RUK who are very professional. McCririck's time has gone and Derek Thompsons' pathetic  commentaries trying to make races more exciting also need to be consigned to the dustbin.

Absolutely.  His ramblings on SKY were incredible, one point he said Jockeys need a whip to control a powerful animal, some point later the whip should be banned.  He's no longer relevant...........and actually he's part of the problem.

Report holywell • October 14, 2011 9:16 AM BST
Unfortunately non-racing channels wheel Mcririck on to our screens when there are any horse racing issues which may be of interest to the general public.

He is part of the perception problem, who can take horseracing issues seriously when he is put in front of the camera, this guy has prostituted himself for money in the last few years. He is viewed as a horse racing expert by people who don't have any knowledge of the sport or politics within the sport.

It is an indictment on the man that he is given air time to share his overbearing / bombastic views on the sport which has given him a comfortable living.

Report warringtonwire • October 14, 2011 12:32 PM BST
A total, self promoting hypocrite.  Whip is cruel but agrees with fox hunting.  Failed bookmaker but always telling other bookmakers (who make a successful living) how to run their book and what to offer punters.   He sees the whip issue as something he feels passionately about but is quite happy to demean and humiliate women with the way he talks and acts. Not passionate about their rights at all. Sat in the Big Brother house in a f*cking big nappy sulking and refusing to talk because he can't have his favourite soft drink. AND MAKES A F*CKING LIVING OUT OF DOING IT. Good on you Channel 4.  Good on you ATR.  Keep paying him. Forget about double standards, forget about women's rights. Keep employing and paying him.
Report khyber kim • October 14, 2011 12:32 PM BST

deadbrain59 are you as clueless as you are making out?? When that fat clueless ignorant prick said she had no chance was the year she came with a stunning run to absolutely hack up in the Classic. She got beat the year after that.

And i agree with the vast majority on this thread, he adds nothing to the sport, his track record shows how utterly clueless he is and he just takes takes takes from the game.

I have no fondness for Big Mac but what you are really saying is it is fine to fill the screens with any number of idiots as long as they support your view. Or is it just too much to expect you to listen to an opposite point of view?
Report the dealer • October 14, 2011 12:49 PM BST
different....... if that was for me, then apart from the obvious that whatever you think of the rule, no one can say that the timing and what has happened is good for racing.

secondly, how can you make a point like that after just over an hour of racing. he is entitled to his opinions but he is the worse i have ever heard of not giving the opposite view a chance.
its his way or no way.

Whatever you say about Big Mac,he has made the best of what he is.
He owns a house in Primrose Hill, a very expensive part of London AND HE OWNS THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR JUST TO STORE THINGS IN!

Like Big Mac, with DT what you see is what you get. I met him at a charity function once and is the same DT as you see on the screen. Jovial, quite knowledgeable. Yes some don't like him, but then one can't please everyone can one! At least he tries to keep his commentaries interesting and exciting even if he does get it wrong sometimes.

Of course we are all entitled to our opinions, but I think some of the flak these 2 get is slightly on the extreme side.

agree with some of the comments, but, take a step back and think, why do the big multiples make mac and thommo their first choice for shop openings?

it must be because they create the most interest, or do you think the big firms PR's dont asses popularity and opinion polls
Report Facts • October 15, 2011 8:21 AM BST
^ its because  these two goons are the only 2 people that the general public recognise because whoever is responsible for PR( beit BHA or Bookmakers), haven't tried one iota to promote anyone else !!!
Report warringtonwire • October 15, 2011 8:33 AM BST
Barry       why do people like the Jeffrey Archer (lied under oath), Christine Hamilton (wife of cash for questions MP) Mad Frankie Fraser(leave that one to the imagination) appear on game shows and reality TV shows ?  Because the public love notoriety - it does not make what they did okay. I appreciate that the 2 aforementioned don't break the law, but citing public interest in them does not endorse their behaviour.  Women have been struggling for equal rights for more than a century. Do you think McCririck is acceptable on national TV with his views ?

If Big Mac was part of the harmless fun of c4 racing then fine, however when he is the one the news programmes turn to then racing has problems. I repeat what I wrote the other day, Mac against the whip yet wants Frankel to run in US where there are lax whip rules. The man is a hypocrite and is along with others helping to kill this sport.

Excerpt from Channel 4 Racing website

From Steve McRae:

I was successful in bidding for the John McCririck puppet at Sotheby's on Thursday.

Why did I buy it ?

Simple, pure value for money. In January it is my seven-year-old son's birthday and he wants to have his friends round. However, to hire a bouncy castle of sufficient size for his friends will cost over £1,000. By using the life size McCririck puppet, I can accommodate twice as many children for a mere £800.

After the event, the grotesque blubber monument will serve as an effective deterrent to burglars and Jehovah's Witnesses.
Report Facts • October 15, 2011 12:13 PM BST
Use it on tv programmes instead of the real thing, would be an intelligent move in the right direction.
Report tinkler • October 15, 2011 1:13 PM BST
Mccrick has tried to help punters by getting on the backs of Bookies who won't guarantee their  early prices
and naming and encouraging bookies who have offered favourable e/w terms (e/w 5 places etc). He's also tried to expose bookies on course when they've been shortening everything pre-race.

Who else on  main stream TV has done the same for Punters?
The general public find him interesting and I think he has attracted people to the sport with his eccentricity.
Keep going John.
