scooper/rider - Hughes has just irritated me by saying that the new whip rules are 'not fair on punters', this coming from a jockey who once said 'I ride for owners not punters' when asked why he didn't ride out for places.

QIPCO must be apoplectic. Large money down the drain. Do you want this by association?

Nice to see punters being used as the excuse - since when did jockeys worry about us?

reve - I seem to remember it was on ATR (Windsor perhaps), it is a fairly well known quote that had been recited many times on here.

Whether Richard Hughes is the best placed person to say it or not, it's about time someone inside racing has mentioned that punters are affected by this rule.

avi i think that was in reply to using the whip when riding for a place. i know hes generally poor about riding out for places but tbf thats a seperate matter and its the stewards fault for not enforcing it.

i get where youre coming from but with regard to punters being unfairly treated, would you prefer he said nothing and that itsonly jockeys, trainers and owners affected?

Hughes is just hankering after attention - he wants the support of punters but do think he cares two hoots about them?

He's given up rides on Casamento, Dick Turpin, Bolivia, Libranno and Polly´s Mark, on champions day.

quote from chappers on twitter sums it up

Why does Sky Sports News have so little imagination that it asks John McCririck about the whip. Very sad broadcasting.CryCry

would 6 hits inside the final furlong on a first time out 2yo have been deemed excessive under the old guidelines?
