Can see why you like it,impressive over course trip, and will take all the beating(not with a whip). That said johnny G decided to fit the blinkers on Unex Renoir so expect a much improved performance(or not?) and gets my vote.

good luck there skint. havent done this race myself as i had info for quite a few in this which did include samarkand who has worked very well recently. however i was also told alshazah is strongly fancied by connections whilst i know robin hoods bay is also very well and the form of that ones last win when beating area 51 got a boost when that one hosed up at nottingham recently. so i have left the race alone.

SAMARKAND (Kempton 8.20) was a really impressive winner over Kempton's 1m4f trip back in June, especially as he raced at least three wide almost throughout, surging clear in the final furlong. He didn't give his running at Ripon next time, but was presumably amiss (trainer's representative also reported that he was unsuited by the ground and the track). He'll stay further, but is clearly capable of proving effective over this course and distance and looks the type to have plenty more progress in him, so he's taken to make a winning return after his break. Alshazah is an interesting opponent having won in really good style (and in a good time) on his latest start here, but there is a definite concern that his stable, which has been in such excellent form all year, has gone off the boil slightly of late.
