One of the things we have heard regularly from Community users is that posting and reading in the forums is not fast enough, especially when you are discussing fast-moving action, such as a horse race or a live football match.
Therefore, from this evening, we are very pleased to be able to launch a new option: Live View.
Available to select as an option on any thread (see image below) within the new Community pages (this feature is not available in the ‘community classic’), Live View will display a scrollable page of the last 100 posts in any topic – and when you select Live View on any thread, any new posts from that point on will appear automatically without you needing to refresh. So, if you sit and watch a thread you will see all new posts appear instantly without the need to do anything. If at any time the new posts appear too quickly for you to keep up, we have added a ‘Pause’ button. Pressing this will mean that any new posts stop appearing until you press the ‘Play’ button, therefore giving you time to catch up.

We have also made posting faster in Live View. If you check the ‘quick reply’ box (to the left of ‘post reply’- see image), you will be able to submit your post, when ready, just by hitting the enter/return button on your keyboard - you will not need to click the ‘post reply’ button. When quick reply mode is enabled, the forum experience is much more like a chat or instant-message. (This means, though, that when using ‘quick reply’ you will not be able to have line returns in your post, as using the return/enter key will submit your post instantly).

There is also the option to ‘quote’ – this will make an excerpt of the opening post on the thread appear in your reply, thus allowing for context and making it clear what you are commenting on, if you need it.
You can switch back to the standard view of the threads at any time you like, but once you select Live View, all threads you click on will be seen in this format until you switch back.
We hope that Live Forums will mean that even discussing a five-furlong sprint or a penalty shoot-out will be quicker and more enjoyable, and will enable you to have rapid-fire debate!
