topspeed = it doesn't matter who you beat/ get beaten by its the time it took to get from A to B

rpr = it doesn't matter how long it took to get from A to B its who you beat / get beaten by and by how far

In light of the new 'use of the whip' rules, would anyone care to hazard a guess as to the impact the new rules will have on speed and collateral form ratings?

In my opinion the new rules would not make a difference to the vast majority of rides, if you'd watched the races in the last two days without being aware of the change you probably wouldn't pick up on it. All the negative comments are seeing things that are being looked for, if you believe in ghosts, then you'll think you've see them imo.

Sorry, grendel - but you are 'a million' with that assertion.

RPR is an attempt to rate the horse in lbs. and should be very similar to the OR (Official handicap rating) Topspeed tries to rate the time based on course average time corrected for weight, going etc. In a slow run race none of the runners will get a topspeed above zero.
Hope this helps.
I don't think that the whip rules will affect more than 10% of race outcomes and some horses will run faster as a result of not being beaten up.

The RP form is a load of bCryllCrycks - NAP!!

Use your eyes, the official ratings, youtube and Sporting Life form replays and trust your own judgement... if you need a safety net, do as I do and have 90% of your bets in races where they're on equal weights or no more than 7lb covering the field... I also have 75% of my bets on graded/grp races so as to be pretty confident they're triers!

Works ok... never going to be rich but it's a nice hobby and I make just enough each yr to cover my whisky bill
