NOBODY paid out cos as soon as they went pasy the post the ring inspector ran down the line informing them not to pay out,was comical though watching people emptying waste bins looking for tickets [and not necasarily there own]
|
|
By:
sandy is spot on..nobody paid anything out and actually watching grown men turning waste bins upside down to search through the content for any ticket needed seeing to be believed.
and while i was explaining to one punter what to do about the ticket he admitted having thrown away another punter came up to us with the very ticket for payment..at least he had the decency to admit he found it. |

well i didn't have any.
with people searching the bins , the floor and the fact that there was no wind to blow discarded tickets away [ unfortunately ]. even so there is a ring manager on duty to help with claims. it was a quiet mid week meeting.......a busy saturday with lots of drunks would have been much more fun |
|
By:
someone had it on there toes with my ticket , threw it in bin in members ,no one could here announcements in members bar , when I got back down , no where to be seen, but did find a half eaten hog roast in the bin plus loads of losing 100 pound plus bets on first favourite, later I found a fiver ticket and an old codger said it was his as he remembered leaving it on the tote window shelf, couldnt be bothered arguing ,the amount of folk going through bins it was embarressing

I stood in the first pitch in the Wetherby Course Enclosure today.
Mark Ryan is a decent bloke and a very well respected Betting Ring Manager and, if he did operate as reported in Tattersalls- then top marks. However, since he cannot be in 2 places at once, the Cheap Enclosure was left to its own devices. Certainly amounts paid out there were £300 and a sum over £100 to the 'winner'. As I doubt that the entire trade all afternoon amounted to £5000 for all 5 bookmakers in the ring, then you can draw all sorts of conclusions. I have to say that 3 punters returned their 'winnings' to me, which is a first since I took out a betting licence in 1987: no one previously ever having done so, EVER. In truth it was a shambles. If this is the face of racing which is being projected nation and world- wide, then there soon won't be a product which people want to buy. |

I was going to post something that I had forgotten, but I have to reply first to a previous correspondent. My days of tipping are long gone.
An Isle of Axholme bookmaker, not a million miles from me today, had a £40 bet to pay back from someone who had thrown his ticket away. Stage left- old age pensioner- with a ticket for a £40 stake the same horse (the only one on the ledger for that amount) claiming a refund (for a ticket that she had found on the floor). I take my hat of to the gentleman of Thistleton Court, Walmgate, York, who shrugged it off in his stride. I would have set the police on her. I would like to publicly say that punters are not always 100% right. And as a bookmaker I would like to say that bookmakers aren't either. |
|
By:
I would like like to say, never had an on course bookmaker do the dirty.
What goes around comes around and punters would be well advised. 3,320 euros dropped at a meeting,on the floor, picked up and returned by my OH.No thanks, nothing. Next time,if ever, kiss her or say goodbye.[>o] |

i kept all tickets when making repayment and i've just gone through them.
three are screwed up and were clearly thrown away [ and found ] one was for £20 and the person who threw it away was talking to me when the ticket was presented [ he had two bets so consecutive numbers ] so that one was sorted and the right person paid. the other two are £2 [ from horse that died ] and £60 the £60 clearly a bonus for someone [ and a loss for someone else ] but there were many , many more winners and losers with other books and the tote COME RACING as you never know what you can find on the floor |
