Well rules are rules they say...But this is the stupidest rule ever thought up. They probably had a meeting, then £1200 lunch then give them selfs a monkeys travelling expenses and said...Yep that sounds a good law we'll pass it. Sad

10 days isnt it, hit it 2 times too many?
Report Roger De Bris • October 12, 2011 3:13 PM BST
the money was down at 33's ew, hit it as much as you like....

The '5 in the final furlong' rule is too inflexible.

I may be wrong, but I believe she never used the whip until the final furlong - so it was the, restrictive, 7 in TOTAL.

Should, at least, be allowed 7 in the final furlong - if they have NOT used the whip prior to the final furlong.

loads of sneaky slap down the necks though...Laugh

It's getting fecking ridiculous now, a jockey gets a 2 day ban for been under the whip quota but for hitting the horse when it was winningCry

Wetherby, 12 October 2011

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Robert Walford, the rider of the winner, CHADFORD, after the last hurdle. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip when clearly winning. As the offence warranted a suspension at the lower level, the Stewards suspended Walford for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 October

reckon under rules Gemelova will get 7 days.
Report Feck N. Eejit • October 12, 2011 3:28 PM BST
That was her 5th ride since the start of August so any ban will cost her practically nothing. There's plenty more around like her so expect to see "lightly raced" jockeys thrashing the life out of gambled horses on a regular basis. The sooner they do away with the whip the better but if they're not going to do this they're going to have to take into account the average number of rides a jockey has over a period.
Report eyebee • October 12, 2011 3:30 PM BST
With all the cheats around its funny to think you can now get a 2 week ban for trying to win
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 12, 2011 3:32 PM BST
7 day ban , spot on MorleySt
Report onlooker • October 12, 2011 3:33 PM BST
She's got a  -7 Day Ban
Report 3DUCKEGGS • October 12, 2011 3:35 PM BST
Sorry to see she has got a ban, I know rules are rules but it's ridiculous.  She was using the whip very tamely hardly belting it and gave her mount a great ride.
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 12, 2011 3:37 PM BST
And she lost her riding fee and prize money percentage...Now that has got to be harsh on her. I'm sure she's not flushed with cash.

She's a very naughty girl [:p]

So if I had a horse I could get a jockey who does not ride that much say to him get stuck in and we will see you alright he breaks the rules gets a ban but I keep winning money and give him some of my winnings. Bit of a farce
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 12, 2011 3:41 PM BST
Happened on Monday steamship. Winner backed fro 14s in to 15/2 jockey 15 day ban hit the horse 11 times
Report 3DUCKEGGS • October 12, 2011 3:41 PM BST
Exactly Steamship and it will happen.

But never mind as long as the do gooders are happy who put zero money into this sport.
Report Feck N. Eejit • October 12, 2011 3:42 PM BST
Exactly Steamship. A 5 day ban for Hughes might cost him 30 rides. They would have to ban Natalia for 6 months to get the equivalent punishment.

oh its ok apparently she can't count... and her family are starving now

Jockeys must take action or this new rule will destroy racing .

Poor old Gem. She's really not having a good time at the moment. Reminds me of that sad interview she gave earlier this year..

I can't wait for Paddy Brennan to get a ban. The table, computers, screens, will all come through the stewards room window..Then the stewards themselves Laugh

Good job she's not married to the no.1 jockey or questions would be asked about the black eye Happy

You cannot have jockeys trying to win races. End of.
Report onlooker • October 12, 2011 3:54 PM BST
7 days for riding a finish ... that would not worry anybody, a few days ago.

The SAD thing about this is, though ...

You could put your mortgage on at 1.01 that 99.99% of the GRAND NATIONAL watching [b]'bleeding hearts' who brought about this 'knee-jerk' reaction from the BHA  -  will NOT have watched her race at Lingfield..... and 90%, or more, will STILL be blissfully unaware that there IS a new Whip Rule - let alone be aware of these bans.
Report Aladdin Sane • October 12, 2011 3:54 PM BST
If, from now, EVERY jockey riding goes and gets him/herself banned, how long would it be before meetings will be cancelled due to lack of available jockeys to ride?!!!!!
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 12, 2011 3:55 PM BST

Hitting a horse 8 times: cruel, hitting a horse 7 times: not cruel? Are the uninterested, non racing public we have done this for counting?
Report Aladdin Sane • October 12, 2011 3:56 PM BST
Apologies - that should be How long would it be before meetings are cancelled due to lack of available jockeys to ride?!!
Report Somerset_Moan • October 12, 2011 4:04 PM BST
Well she can ride a finish on me, use the whip AND kick the dog...ANY TIME!
Report LordBobbbin • October 12, 2011 4:28 PM BST
Me too!    I'll even wear a bridle and bit for her.

Mind you, I do that most nights of the week anyway...

Looks like another BAN in the 5-10
