I think Reg Akehurst trained Global Lady in the late 80's. She was a bit of a Lingfield specialist.

Remember when Akehurst had a run of scooping the big handicap hurdle virtually every Saturday - usually ridden by Dale McKeown!
I liked one of Ramsden's that used to win three or four at the beginning of the season on soft ground at Hamilton (it was low grade hadicapper - obviously). Fecked if I can remember the name of the horse now though. |

One of the Akehurst handicap winners was Intuition I think.

Asking about Ramsden is akin to asking who was your favourite ever con artist.Rancid crook.

Not the one I was thinking of intheknow. Short name and like I say, a low grade handicapper, often ridden by an apprentice too I think.

Did Astrac end up having run at all UK flat courses?
Reg had a few decent novice hurdlers, some of which p1ssed up first time out, under SS-E? Coe was one, I think. Juven Light? |

He also landed the Imperial Cup and Swinton Hurdle with Inlander in 1987 - both times ridden by SSE.

GG,
Are you after INLANDER (Imperial Cup, Saturday before Cheltenham), TIGERWOOD (Bic Razor H'cap Hdle, Sat after Cheltenham) and JUVEN LIGHT (L'oreal H'cap Hdle - following week, I think). Took down the feature H'cap Hdle three Satudays on the spin. Happy days. |

Cheers - I'm beginning to recall those names now you mention them! All very well punted, although sadly not all of by me! Martin Pipe went on to do similar / better things with the big Saturday handicaps but Akehurst was the original. Do you recall Intuition? I'm pretty sure he won a big one on a Saturday for Akehurst / McKeown, although it's perfectly possible that I've mixed the name up with Inlander. intheknow I still can't recall the name of the Ramsden horse that I liked backing. It wasn't particularly good but she used to run it half a dozen times or so in the first few weeks of the season (to catch the soft going) and the horse always won a few. It'll bug me all night now. Better if I ignore these threads! |

Red Robbo - 1997 Hunt Cup ridden by Peslier. Think he was formerly with Henry Cecil.
