What if a jockey gives the horse a slap and misses, does that still count towards their quota?
And how long will it be before the first jockey having used them all up, tucks the whip under the arm and swings his reins either side of the horse in giddy-up cowboy style?

I was saying it mainly with tongue in cheek but fair enough that you have replied and thanks for your answer.
You just know though that the jockeys will be trying every trick in the book and showing the horse the whip and then throwing in an odd airshot between genuine slaps if that's the case and no doubt will soon be whipping their own boots or saddle just to make a noise that they hope the horse will also react to......expect to see plenty of use of the reins down the horses neck too.

...and another reason i love it......apart from the increased unpredictablity..
is that there is nothing more odious in long jumps races especailly on tiring ground than a horse that is quite obviosly knackered being hit and hit and hit in order that money is not lost.......utterly disgraceful......
..and hopefully soon anything over 3 miles will be banned....especially the Grand National.
