winning jock had 2 smacks in the bank at the winning line i think
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 11, 2011 4:14 PM BST
Used about 3
Report bilbobaggins • October 11, 2011 4:14 PM BST
Only 2 in the last furlong but did quite a few previously. What a joke this rule is where a jockey has to try not to win.
Report silvergreaser • October 11, 2011 4:14 PM BST
I think he tried to pull the whip through and it got stuck
Report Can't Catch Me • October 11, 2011 4:14 PM BST
Agree entirely. Think he used 3 or 4. Should have used them all.
Report dan hardcore • October 11, 2011 4:14 PM BST
he wasnt trying not to win ffs, get a grip!!!!!
Report TRD.Racing • October 11, 2011 4:15 PM BST
This is a joke. The game is now totally fecked
Report der_der_73 • October 11, 2011 4:15 PM BST
a fine example of the jockey being scared of getting banned rather than win
Report Anaglogs Daughter • October 11, 2011 4:16 PM BST
They can't remember. they hit it 3 or 4 times then forget a few strides later

did you not notice the horse started to hang and he tried to pull it through but it was obvious he was having a problem trying to pull it through so gave up as it was too close to line.
Report Can't Catch Me • October 11, 2011 4:18 PM BST
Sums up everything that is wrong with the new ruling imo. Leave it as it was or ban it altogether. Simples.
Report pablo gonzales • October 11, 2011 4:18 PM BST
he  used  1 .  The  horse  responded  very  well to  the  one  and  only  strike . The  horse  got  within  a neck  a  long  way  from  the  line  and he  didnt  bother  anymore.  Make  your  own  minds  up  from the  facts  as  to  whether  de  sousa  really  wanted  to  bother to  win .
Report PompeyMike • October 11, 2011 4:20 PM BST
Great rule for jockeys as they can mostly have an excuse for getting beaten.

Sorry guvnor but I he would have won if I could have stoked him up a bit.
Report silvergreaser • October 11, 2011 4:20 PM BST
look at the race again ffs he didn't deliberately only hit it once he's clearly having a problem trying to pull his whip through after the horse hung into the winner, take off the blinkers guys...
Report Deltâ • October 11, 2011 4:20 PM BST

Report sickoflayinwinners • October 11, 2011 4:20 PM BST
i think with a head on view we would see that avon lady moved towards the fav as it got within a neck and that was enuogh to stop zoowra going past , it looked as if it was intimidated.
Report brigust1 • October 11, 2011 4:21 PM BST
Confirms my fears. De Souza is still in line for the championship as wasn't risking a ban because he lost count. This rule is a joke.
Report der_der_73 • October 11, 2011 4:22 PM BST
why would he pull it through you nut case, he had the whip in the correct hand and if it was hanging he did't need to change his whip!
Report Aviboyd • October 11, 2011 4:22 PM BST
Cry four now equals seven...
Report stewarty b • October 11, 2011 4:24 PM BST

Had it been several other jockey's (no names) everyone would be calling 'cheat'.
Report silvergreaser • October 11, 2011 4:30 PM BST
I wonder are the jockeys doing this deliberately, basically a weighing room ploy to try and ridicule the new rules?
Report Gerry Gallbladder • October 11, 2011 4:32 PM BST
No doubt about it imo silver. It'll backfire on them I reckon.
Report der_der_73 • October 11, 2011 4:32 PM BST
"I wonder are the jockeys doing this deliberately, basically a weighing room ploy to try and ridicule the new rules?"

2 minutes ago you were telling us that we were wearing blinkers!
Report silvergreaser • October 11, 2011 4:37 PM BST
well I'm just going on what the jockey himself said that he thought he had use his quota even though I do think he got a little fuddled with his whip close to the line.

Its not fanciful to think jockeys wouldn't get together to try and ridicule the rules at every opportunity.
Report pablo gonzales • October 11, 2011 4:40 PM BST
all  these  completely differing views , some  well  made  points  and  some  not ! , reinforce  my worst  fears  about  this  rule  . Itd  hard  enough  without  the  new  rules  for  the  stewards  to  decide  a  non trier  or  not  .  This  will be  impossible  to  police  in large  fields  and  some  jocks  have  now  many  more  excuses  when  they  say "  but  sir  , it  was  like this "
Report der_der_73 • October 11, 2011 4:41 PM BST
you said "ffs" and we "are all wearing blinkers" when in fact, you haven't a clue what you are talking about.  If you are not sure, don't come out with such strong stupid comments!
Report ph. • October 11, 2011 4:41 PM BST
it is a maximum of 5 in the last furlong,he can use as few as he wants,he pushed and shoved and that was the chosen route, they don't have to use their hitting allowance.
Report Can't Catch Me • October 11, 2011 4:48 PM BST
But the horse responded to a crack of the whip ph. Why wouldnt you do it again?
Report Aviboyd • October 11, 2011 4:50 PM BST
Chaps, SDS thought he'd already used the whip seven times (whereas he'd used it only four).  But for the miscount he would have used the stick again and won the race...
Report thedikler • October 11, 2011 4:52 PM BST
Im going to concentrate on the cartoon racing at least you know there trying their hardest Plain
Report jmc27 • October 11, 2011 5:13 PM BST
Done a lot of cash on Zoowrra today but its right desperation trying to blame the new whip ban for costing her the race. Take it on the chin chaps :)
Report Aviboyd • October 11, 2011 5:15 PM BST
jmc27 - of course the new rules cost the horse the race, did you not hear the SDS quote!
Report jmc27 • October 11, 2011 5:19 PM BST
SDS probably trying to take away from his tangled hands more like. The winner was much more game simple as the whip isnt a turbo ffs
Report Aviboyd • October 11, 2011 5:20 PM BST
jmc27 - SDS said he would have won if he'd had used the whip an extra time FFS.
Report hello :-) • October 11, 2011 5:20 PM BST
how can you blame whip , only hit it once , wierd finish
Report jmc27 • October 11, 2011 5:22 PM BST
Haha
Report jmc27 • October 11, 2011 5:24 PM BST
My laughter is at the one more hit and he would have won, I have heard it all. WHat if Eddie Ahern hit his horse one more time would it have found another half length aswell then

the new rules  will reduce  the  number  of  times that  the  best  horse  wins  the  race . It  will also give  jockeys  far  more  " get outs "  in the  stewards  room and  it  will  result  in more  stewards inquiries owing  to  horses not  being  straightened on occasions  in  final  furlong . All  this   good  news  for  layers  ,  not  bettors
Report brigust1 • October 11, 2011 6:57 PM BST
That's two well fancied favourites beaten simply because of the whip rules. Yesterday Steve Drowne today De Souza. The bookies will not be complaining anytime soon.

Wait until the rules go against them then the BHA will know the warmth of th whip. They are organised that is why the onus has been put onto the jockeys and the punters suffer because they are not organised or are preared to stand together. Divide and seperate.
