A poor example I know, and probably a three month ban would have been in order. But it was Piggott and he was a law unto himself. But going by tonights threads it's all political now.

Can you imagine if we only had trotting to bet on in the UK???

You stick a ton on a 5/1 chance, it romps home only to be disqualified because it broke into a 'run'.

Now as far as I'm aware, these pilots can use the whip if and when they want.

This new rule is an insult to us punters, but having said that, ban the whip alltogether and let's see who the best pilots really are. (Fallon would be my choice for champion jockey for the next five years)

As for those who can't get a bet on due to the lack of liquidity.........fvck them....

This is going to turn into the biggest farce in the history of horseracing. (nap) (five star)

Even Hughes doesn't know the rules. (a senior jockey)

As where the punters stand, that's anybody's guess.

Best to give in to the cruelty mob and ban the whip forever.

Personally it will be football only for me. (until they ban tackles...)

sandysboy is quite right.
Roberto at the time was seen as Piggott`s finest moment. There was a clear concensus that if the jockeys had been swapped Rheingold would have won.

Which begs the question.....

Roberto was tickled a bit more than the Minstrel.

Would not have won without Lester getting the tune.[;)]

Spencer has got some stick over here for the way he rode Cape Blanco in America. In fact he only hit the thing behind the saddle unlike some Yank jocks who seem to hit them anywhere.
Incidentally Roberto won what is now The Juddmonte at York that year and became the only horse to beat Brigadier Gerard. He was also a successful stallion whose male line is still quite prominent in The US. Hardly ruined.
